Re: Does the DGT2010 have a design fault?

What do others think? The clock is FIDE approved, and as such, it had to meet certain standards. The DGT 2010 meets those standards. So the clock is working as it was designed to work, and if there is a fault, then the fault is with the standards that FIDE have set DGT and other manufacturers to me...

Re: London Chess Classic 2017

I can't seem to find a final cross-table for the top event... "http://theweekinchess.com/chessnews/eve ... assic-2017" Thanks! I had hoped to find it on the "Classic" website. The omission has now been rectified. http://www.londonchessclassic.com/gct/gct_standings.htm Is it deliberate that Adams is...

Re: Attracting new players to the game; who is responsible?

I wonder what they introduce first. I always introduce the chessboard first. I show them the board, and ask how many squares there are. The answers you get are normally in three groups: (1) The children who guess random numbers, i.e. not even trying to solve the problem (2) The children who count 1...

Thanks. The link to that site from chess-results.com is incorrect (though now I see it is typed out in the header)
The link was too long, sadly...

Re: Mobile phone ringing during a game.

Something went wrong with the tram, so a couple of minutes after the starting time he phoned his top board to report that he would be in breach of the new zero tolerance regulations... Which one might also think is entirely stupid, since the top board would have been painfully aware of this transgr...

Re: London Chess Classic 2017

There are schools events going on in the Auditorium until about 2pm on each of Monday to Friday; and in the East Hall until about 3:30pm. The Monday to Friday rounds start at 4pm to allow for the room to be set up. This isn't an issue in Round 1, which was at Google. Nor is it an issue at the weeken...

Re: Mobile phone ringing during a game.

He was politely informed that technically the game was still in progress and thus this board is now lost (unless his opponent had insufficient material to win in which case it would be a draw) This is not quite the case. Even if there is "insufficient material", or more accurately, the player canno...

Re: London Chess Classic 2017

At the start of Round 1 today in the FIDE Open, Malcolm addressed the Hall and confirmed that despite the earlier question marks, the London Chess Classic will indeed take place again in 2018.

There is also the English KO event starting today.
Jonathan Rowson might dispute that.

I believe defaults are happening more frequently in London and surrounding areas because of traffic or a very poor public transport situation.
The good folk of Lincolnshire are no doubt shedding a tear at how poor public transport is in London for them to get to league games.

My question is this, should the game be submitted for grading purposes?
Why not e-mail the ECF, if you haven't already? You might just get a definitive answer from him, rather than lots of people giving you their opinion.

Plus, why apply for a visa just to make a political point if you don't intend to play? I doubt most professional chess players would think beyond their next pay day.
I suspect there will be one or two who would want to make the political point.

Re: 2017 King Salman World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 26-30 December 2017

If this article by Itamar Eichner the Diplomatic correspondent for the Israeli, Yedioth Ahronot newspaper, is to be believed then, following discussions with Kirsan Illyumzhinov, 11 applications from Israel chess players are due to be submitted for visas to play in Saudi Arabia. If approved it will...

Re: World Senior Championships, Nov. 2017 Acqui Terme

Why are the top England players not there? Other commitments? Lack of funding? Was the ECF involved in any of the co-ordination? Perhaps the question you should be asking is why did the 4NCL chose a weekend that clashed with the World Seniors Championship? No matter when you hold it, you're always ...
