Re: COVid19-What's wrong with UK?
And the Iranian Government is less repressive than ours. Really, there is a good deal of nonsense spouted on this forum but this is the most ridiculous I can recall.

Re: COVid19-What's wrong with UK?
Nick - "allowing their people to play chess". But:- "The authorities heavily suppressed the rights to freedom of expression, association and assembly. Security forces used unlawful force to crush protests. The authorities continued to arbitrarily detain hundreds of protesters, dissidents and human r...

Re: COVid19-What's wrong with UK?
His dismissal of the present PM with a single four letter expletive is entertaining, though. Hardly original, not worth buying the book for. The truth is that Alan Duncan was never going to be of any signifcance and he is the only person who cannot see why that was. Perhaps Clark wasn't either, but...

Re: COVid19-What's wrong with UK?
Perhaps Nick would like to withdraw what he said on the subject as well.

You heard it here first - Iran has a less repressive Government than the UK.

I wondered how long it would take till someone just felt they had to produce this.

Re: Syd Kalinsky
I managed to get Syd's age wrong. He was born in August 1931 so he was 89.

Syd Kalinsky
The death of Syd Kalinsky on 7 April has been announced on the Essex Chess Association website. Syd was 88 and retained much of his strength into his later years. His last grade was 136 and he continued to play regularly up until the pandemic. See https://www.essexchess.org.uk/
RIP Syd.
RIP Syd.

Re: Ginger GM Collection Sale
For my part, I find Simon's style a bit wearing, but I know a lot players like him. Incidentally, Chess and Bridge have still got a load of Ginger GM DVDs at a fiver and they are certainly worth a look. Ivan Sokolov on Middlegame Pawn Structures is a great buy at that price and he doesn't find it ne...

This is a really interesting post by Justin and I hope that more may be found, one way or another, about Senor Gimeno.

Re: Under Statement?
This is the kind of argument in an empty house that I am normally credited with. No, it's the usual nothing-to-see-here that you usually do Geoff is, of course, always pleasant in his posts and is is unfair to suggest that he produces nothing. The James Aitken thread is an important step forward.

To bring this up to date, most of the Ginger GM DVDs are currently on sale for a fiver at Chess and Bridge, although you will obviously have to pay postage,

Re: H.E.Atkins
I think Blackburne was probably better than me. But I am not absolutely sure. His best games are fantastic, his worst poor. I suspect I would get good positions against him and then get blown away tactically. Atkins is the first player I am sure was better than me, based on maybe 10 hours playing t...

Re: UK Citizenship Test
I get 22, but I guessed 1 and 2 (fortunately, correctly). Q6 is just silly or wrongly worded. The ones I got wrong were 15 (another silly question), 16 and 25.
