Re: End of an era
I can't say I'm too concerned as anyone newly dealing with Ray would, if they had any sense at all, first do a background check [as one would do with anyone else] which might start with something as simple as googling his name. Among the first entries one comes across is, for example, "Raymond Keen...

Re: Cheating in chess
Here is the link https://bridgewinners.com/article/view/european-national-team-championships-fortune-teller-another-proof-that-it-is-not-possible/ I have quoted John's comments in full. I respect his insights as a member of the fair play commission, a lawyer, an expert player and a friend. That doe...

Re: Cheating in chess
The chess.com article about the Osmak case has been highlighted on a Bridge Forum and received a rather interesting comment from my teammate John Cox (who is, it may be worth noting, a lawyer). "As a member of FIDE's Fair Play Commission, I would like to correct a slightly misleading impression giv...

Re: Music from the 80s
Here is an 80s music question. Should be quite easy though. No googling. Where did the 80s group T'Pau get their name from? T'Pau was Spock's mother. How many ears did Spock have? Three - a left ear, a right ear and a final front ear. Ha ha - very good. I hesitate to contribute to this thread but a...

Re: Cheating in chess
Someone calling himself David Cordover has commented on Chess24. I'll reproduce the comments here, but I would just caution that I have no evidence as to whether this is, or is not, the real David Cordover The comments can be found against the piece here . Given what is attributed to him, I think i...

Re: Events Director OTB chess
...it's probably safe [despite scepticism among some here] to assume that the ECF Board doesn't routinely make random senior appointments for no particular reason. Perhaps it could say what the reason(s) was/were? Yes, the Articles allow the Board to fill board vacancies and create new directorship...

Re: Events Director OTB chess
The Articles of Association provide for a maximum of 12 Directors. There were previously 11, so the Board was entitled to appoint an additional person. It must have taken me all of two minutes on the ECF website to confirm the facts I have stated in the previous sentence. I checked the same, though...

Re: Master List
So far as GDPR requirements are concerned, I would have thought there was a "legitimate interest" as the data is used to help identify players and avoid duplicate references.Brian Valentine wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 10:18 amWe are reviewing the data access facilities, but we do need to meet GDPR requirements so things do have to change.

Re: Master List
The masterlist in its old form is no longer available. While I don't know exactly what you are using it for, there are a number of ways of extracting data here: https://www.ecfrating.org.uk/v2/help/help_api.php It's required by the Result File Checker program, isn't it? Also the UTU Swiss app uses ...

Re: Fat Fritz 2
There's also a statement from Stockfish . One thing I'm not clear about is whether Chessbase has yet made available *all* of the source code / source data required by the GPL. It appears from the Stockfish statement that no source was made available at first and then, when a source was released, it ...

Re: ECF Finance Meeting
ECF- and 4NCL-organised online events which are ECF-rated require participants to be ECF Supporters or ECF Members but I think it's possible other events may not. (So far as I can see, no stipulations for the rating of online events are given on the membership pages of the ECF website.) ECF support...
