Re: ECF Membership Reform

When I was involved, not too long ago, in club administration and also as a Bronze Members' rep on ECF Council, it seemed to me that there was a class of player, not insignificant in number, who were happy to turn out and play (graded/rated) league matches for their club maybe five to ten times a ye...

The forum has been a better place since it rid itself of its RDK obsession.

A cautionary point made here:

Do you really think ministers will get justice for Post Office victims? Ask the Windrush families and think again (Amelia Gentleman writing in The Guardian)
If I recall, Amelia Gentleman did a great job exposing the awful treatment of the Windrush generation.

Re: ICL Pathway (Fujitsu) Curiosity

I have asked Computer Weekly for answers but may never get them as they themselves may not know. I thought this piece was interesting. Based on what's stated, I wonder whether there may also not have been a reconciliation process to check reported receipts to and payments from each Post Office coun...

Brilliant result for Shreyas, so tomorrow he needs a draw for a GM norm and Mickey needs a draw to guarantee at least a share of first
Shreyas is White for what it's worth. Will Mickey allow him an easy-ish draw?

Somerset Council's mismanagement has been so great that they appear to be bankrupt...
It's becoming quite common for local authorities, of all colours, to find themselves a £billion or so in debt and bankrupt.

Does anyone else have experience or expertise in this field?
I think Richard James might be a very good person to consult.

Re: Chess and Pension Fraud - allegation

Well this was certainly smoke and mirrors. When we get down to basics, though, it appears that a cabal of chessplayers has played fast and loose with other people's money. One wonders how BH Wood would have reported this had it happened during his watch. I'm sure he would not have minced his words....

Re: Chess and Pension Fraud - allegation

So to appeal it, is it correct he doesn’t have an automatic right, but has to apply to the High Court to get permission to appeal on compelling grounds? And none of that stops the judgement being carried out unless the High Court rule it should be paused. So the 24th Oct remains a deadline to pay. ...

Re: Chess and Pension Fraud - allegation

Point 165; ‘This money and his pension have been embezzled by Brambles and the Trustees.’ Brambles being Glenn House, the Trustees are Simon Williams and co. Points 167-169 of the report don’t pull many punches; ‘Mr Williams is trying to blame everyone but himself.’ And goes on from there. Just to ...

Re: October 2023 ECF AGM

I was attempting to use the same currency as Paul, that is £10-£20 per member. I can't help but wonder, why the range and why so much (be it £10 or £20 per member)? I have a vague recollection of an estimate - likely unofficial, and from some years ago - that grading services cost £1 per member. I ...
