Re: Clock Bangers
Junior players who do this need telling in no uncertain terms, adult players who do this need ejecting in no uncertain terms – along with “piece screwing” it is the height of bad manners.

Re: We should teach children darts not chess? Discuss.
I always find international darts heavily embarrassing; When we play the Germans they are all blonde, aryan athletes and on the Brit team, the average weight is 22 stone

Re: George Hollands 1984-2023
Wow I played George about a year ago at CC, as part a BCCA cup tournament (one of the last games I played before deciding my return to the game wasn't a keeper, due to the tedium of every single player using an engine - CC is over basically) I remember he was a really nice chatty guy on the ICCF se...

Re: Bring a friend day
To be honest, the age of forums as a whole has pretty much passed - 15 years ago I was a regular contributor and mod on several (none chess related) forums. Every single one is dead and gone now, in the age of Facebook and instant messaging, this place is thriving.

Certainly would be considered an upset, but I doubt poor Gawain is firing on all cylinders yetMick Norris wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 11:20 amYorkshire website
The Open saw a welcome appearance of Gawain Jones, who might have been expected to make a clean sweep with 6 out of 6 but lost to Jacob Connor Boswell in round 4

Re: "Resetting" my rapid rating
We are probably coming at this from two different points of view here, but I say just enjoy it - play a bunch of rapid tournaments and shark the intermediate section for 6 months  Your rating will soon go up and you'll have some fun. I personally don't take rapid seriously in the league, but I ...

Not to be crass, but do we have any more details than "Suddenly"? It's no age at all to go.

Over 190,000 views on https://markhowitt.blogspot.com/ now... more to come... Yes the Wayback machine gets a lot of hits... Hang on... this is current?! My apologies, I thought it was designed using HTML circa 2004. Though to be fair make that 190,001 views now, because I just clicked it fo...

Re: UK Open Blitz 2023
I would suggest participating is very rarely just about the money for over the board players Mark, especially the majority who have day jobs. Also, if it's £26 to enter the regional qualifiers and the section prize is £50 then that isn't even just over double the entry fee as you claim. Surreal I k...

Re: Annoying time wasting
I've had that sort of thing happen to me before. My opponent was a soreloser and wanted to annoy me as a form of revenge. Very rare but has happened. Slamming the pieces down has been slightly more common. I once had a guy in the YCA league (not a strong player ECF 140 or so in old money) refuse to...

Yep there's a reason why I've got over 450,000 views on my share writing and over 189,000 views on my blog too... come back to me when you can do those numbers. I neither write nor blog, so you will be waiting a while. I do however note, your continual spamming on this forum is starting to wear a l...

Re: Annoying time wasting
I will echo, very little you can do; the player is entitled to use his allotted time any way he sees fit – maybe he was reminding himself of the rules of chess during the ten-minute wait on the one legal move. I agree terrible etiquette and nothing short of gamesmanship on his part (probably hoping ...

Re: Mark Howitt's Chess Coaching
Very likely I've found a good club to play for in Hudds chess league. Training continues. Be sure to let us know when they've absolutely, positively locked you down and the other 6 bidders, fighting for your playing services, have been given the bad news... ... because I really, really can't wait t...
