In Germany, senior chess events start at 9.30am. That is because that is what Germans are used to.
I think this is too much of a generalisation - there might be some people especially in the former Eastern part of Germany who prefer 9:30, however certainly not in Germany overall

Re: GRENKE Chess Classic 2017

There was something strange I saw on Twitter to the effect that the games played on Good Frioday couldn't be transmitted live because of German law. Anybody know what this is about? IT has to do with the status of Good Friday, it is seen as "quiet"holiday, therefore many events especially also spor...

Re: European Women's Championship 2015

Matthew, I think it is not much point in guessing how technology will evolve in ten years time- I think that beside controls like checking the player or his/her bags we should think already now, about technical measures how to detect cheating. In most cases it goes obviously with transmitting data, ...

Re: European Individual 19th March - 1st April 2012

With reference to the quick draw on board 1 though, now that the precedent has been set it would be amusing if several of the top boards tomorrow concluded after exactly the same sequence of moves :) Repetitions have always been allowed under Sofia rules, it's a major and obvious flaw. According to...

Did not at least Mamedov already qualify last year in Rijeka, so that he would not count for the 23?

Re: French Chess Federation investigates cheating players

At one of the German blogs ( http://www.schach-welt.de/blog/blog/sebastien-feller-gegen-den-franzosischen-verband#itemCommentsAnchor) a visitor visiting Biel last summer, wrote the following comment (translation obviously by me): he saw last summer Marzolo (who was not playing himself) analyzing the...

Re: Female Player Rule

Does anybody know the exact numbers of female players in the 4 NCL for the last few seasons? At the webpage http://www.4ncl.co.uk/growth.htm , (which shows only statistics till 05/06) the number of women playing in that season is given as 98 (for all divisions) - which seems a relative high number t...
