Re: Irish Championships 2018

I have played Stephen once and observed him several times.....my take lovely guy but.... (my take only).....a killer over the board...not just a killer but a sadist that uses the clock time to maximise the thrill that he gets from winning chess games. let this be a lesson for Stephen! wonder if ther...

Re: Irish Championships 2018

Lawrence Quote"Speaking as his 4NCL captain I think players looking to move out of their comfort zone and play stronger players should be applauded not criticised." Unquote sorry but you are simply wrong here. David would not be at all comfortable playing in this years Irish ch. and David has never ...

Re: Irish Championships 2018

Hi Roger I spotted that too and yes there is something here that needs clarification! (IMO) John, has Conor Murphy requested byes for the first two rounds of the Irish ch? if so will he be getting half point byes or zero point byes? Perhaps you could contact David FitzSimons and offer him a similar ...

Re: Pula Open (Croatia) 2018

Ravi has played in an incredible number of tournaments is the past 8-10 months...if he continues at this rate I expect he will be a GM before the end of 2018 . He is Cavendish's new star player as well as our youngest player by several decades!

Re: World Senior Team Championships, Dresden 2018

Hi Stewart, How long have we both been playing for Cavendish? I think I was there from 1995 to 2006 and was secretary from 2002 to 2005 and rejoined again at the end of the 2016 season... I think from memory I played 3 games for Bertie's third team on board 1 and you played on board 2 ;) I thought y...

Re: World Senior Team Championships, Dresden 2018

I am due to arrive at Dresden airport via Frankfurt on Saturday 7th July circa 1pm. I was wondering if any others were arriving at a similar time that we might share a taxi. I realise it's a long shot as the organisers have changed the start time for round 1 very late in the day and most of you are ...

Re: The Irish Easter Festival: Norm events, 40+ events & All-play-alls

Hi John thanks for the updates re David being so close to the title... I admit I wasn't following his progress in this seasons 4NCL so closely... I seen he lost a game or 2? so thought his chance of a norm this season was not on the cards...good to hear it is still on. quote "further down the odds s...

Re: The Irish Easter Festival: Norm events, 40+ events & All-play-alls

Two norms achieved for local players! GM norm for Alex Lopez and IM norm for Conor O' Donnell http://chess-results.com/tnr329341.aspx?lan=1 http://chess-results.com/tnr329342.aspx?lan=1&art=1 As I mentioned before I expect Alex to become a GM in time...this result now propels him high up the ladder ...

Re: Irish IM Norm Event

Sam Collins got his 3rd GM norm and Stephen Jessel his 5th IM norm in the GM norm event that concluded yesterday. Sam and Stephen now join Joe Ryan... in the exclusive club of players that are half way there (already achieved the norm requirements) They all now need to get their ratings up (2500 for...

Re: Irish IM Norm Event

well spotted Roger... Turner now plays under the Scottish flag and Korneev the Spanish flag also not sure why Paronyan Vahe rated 1760 is playing in the IM norm event as surely this would effect the mean rating? possibly he is a reserve and the ICU has a 2200 - 2300 player to replace him? possibly h...

Re: DGT clocks sale price £25?

Hi David sorted...thanks, the ICU purchased quite a few and I have just now reserved one for collection for 20 Euros on 3rd Jan. By pure co-incidence today Friday 22nd was their deadline for ICU members to buy or reserve the discounted clocks! the 3000 models were being offered to ICU members for 25...
