Re: What's this against my Sicilian

Didn't Chess Stars publish a book on this line some years back? I think the author was GM Vadim Zvjaginsev. Here he is using the line to claim an impressive scalp. [Event "RUS-chT 13th"] [Site "Sochi"] [Date "2006.04.20"] [Round "1"] [White "Zvjaginsev, Vadim"] [Black "Ponomariov, Ruslan"] [Result "...

Re: Tim Crouch

A lovely chap. Originally from Dorset, Tim spent part of his working life as an engineer for one of the big computer manufacturers, travelling from firm to firm fixing their broken machines - no easy task in that era of huge computing beasts with miles of wiring. Unsurprisingly, Tim remained comfort...

Re: Worrying times

Depends on the definition of missing . If they're counting every phone call to the police or local authority or school from a worried parent whose child is late home from classes … I don't know whether this charity (or their fund raising agents) are capable of this, but some feel able to play fast a...

Re: Worrying times

Hmm - thinking about it, I am almost certain the exact wording across the top of the posters (I will try to check tomorrow when exercising, if I pass one of the ad sites) is: "Every second a child is missing" Searching for that online for images, I find the phrase has been used, but it is necessary...

Re: Worrying times

-- text omitted -- The charity is asking people to donate via text, citing the shocking - well, it shocked me - statistic that a child goes missing every second. But when I did a quick calculation, the most shocking thing about this statistic is that anyone would dare put it forward. Consider: one ...

And Turner played in 2018, which means 2019 was the only British Knockout without a Scottish participant.
Well, without a SCO registered participant at least.

Re: Gibraltar 2020

As David has said, I have a photo of him with aforementioned beverage, and also one of his opponent pointing gleefully to the a1 square on a demo board, but the forum has a restriction on the size/resolution of photos it is prepared to display. Which is perfectly reasonable as, otherwise, our belov...

World Chess Day 20 July 2020

While you might have thought the UN would have been wrestling with weightier matters, they have found time to declare 20 July World Chess Day https://en.chessbase.com/post/july-20th ... -chess-day I notice it falls during the British Championships in Torquay.

Re: English Senior opps 2020

The games are not FIDE rated (as I suspect you know) and the tournament name (like the FIDE equivalent) is silly, but it's a damn good holiday chess event.
