In a game of mine on the weekend, my opponent twice offered me a draw in an overly loud and clear voice that made everyone turn round and smile, I refused both times. Later, still a pawn up but down to about 90 secs left I couldn't see a way to make progress so I offered a draw but uncharacteristic...

In case anyone is confused, the Tunbridge Wells congress has nothing whatsoever to do with the Bourne End Rapidplay.

I'd be inclined to make my move and pause the clock until my opponent returned to the board. In amateur sport, as long as one is not gaining an advantage, good manners shouldn't need to be cleared with an arbiter.
