Re: England teams for 2011 European Team Championship

I notice that Gawain has drawn already. I guess if the bottom two boards can draw then we have a slim chance of getting something. It is a shame that Howell hasn't been given a chance to redeem himself. Why not play him yesterday so he could have an easy win and then rest him today if necessary. See...

Re: Does publishing games give anyone an advantage?

According to the link below it is the 5th most popular chess website in the world. http://pogonina.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=778&Itemid=1&lang=english For us paup...

Re: Does publishing games give anyone an advantage?

If you play a rated tournament, the games get published, and if you are forced to play the occasional difefrent opening as a result, I think that is a good thing! I agree with that. In agreeing to Andrew's request in a varied form I hope everyone can see that we are not refusing to publish junior g...

Re: 39th Olympiad Khanty-Mansiysk 2010 (the chess)

Why is Smeets moving so slowly? Has he got diarrhea?

Can see Adams and Short winning here and at least a draw from McShane.

Re: British Chess Championships 2010

It looks like Jack Rudd has sprung a nice trap to win a pawn:

12. ... exd
13. Nxd5 Qd8 (to defend the knight)
14. Bb6 wins back the piece

Matthew Sadler is back

http://www.chessvibes.com/reports/victorious-comeback-for-matthew-sadler/ Matthew wins his first tournament back after 11 years out of chess. Looking at the games he won them in some style as well. One of his wins as Black went 1. ... a6 2. ... h6! If he joined the Olympiad team later this year we w...

Re: British Championship Thread

I think Jones has good compensation.

He can play 20. a4 followed by a5, then Ba4+ keeping the king in the centre and then Nb6 and the minor pieces cause mayhem.

Looks like he chose a different (inferior?) plan!

Re: British Championship Thread

Summerscale looks lost.

How does he defend against the threat of ... R*h2, B*h2 Qh4?

If 25.h3 then Bxh3, gxh3 Qh4 looks terrible.

0-1

Re: British Championship Thread

Lovely win by Stephen Gordon today - surely a candidate for game of the day? I love the way he sac'ed the exchange and then calmly castled, leaving White defenseless. Eggleston seemed out of his depth with practically no threats the whole game. If I didn't play the Najdorf already this game would ma...
