As my mother would have said, I'm sure both issues could be sorted with a good slap.

Re: Cheating in chess

In one fixture this season, an opposition player used his phone to check his opponents grade, a second remained sat at the board inputting a finished game into phone and a third left a phone ringing in his bag. And in another match one player put his phone on silent and picked it up to read a messa...

Re: Cheating in chess

Use of phones is a distraction. In one fixture this season, an opposition player used his phone to check his opponents grade, a second remained sat at the board inputting a finished game into phone and a third left a phone ringing in his bag. Roger

Justin raised a number of topics of interest. He was still not as prolific as other posts on their pet topics. If people prefer a narrower range of topics to be covered in this place so that they never have views challenged that is up to them, but the forum is a duller place as a result.

Re: Happy Birthday GM Raymond Keene OBE (29-i-1948)

Don't really see why posters are so keen to comment in this way on the contribution of others iin this place Not as if any of the critics are notable for their own efforts, and some have obsessions of their own. Surely better just to ignore posts of no personal interest. I believe this is Ray's poi...

Agreed - but the obsession was less the Forum's and more one particular forumite who no longer posts.

Our moral guardian as well, self appointed admittedly.
Nonsense.

Re: 2023 World Rapid & Blitz

I'm not a fan of dress codes, the shoes don't disrespect anyone. But I thought rapid and blitz forms of the game were part of popularizing chess. The faster forms of cricket are played in pajamas. Chess might learn from that.

Re: Living in the Past: The Chiltern League

I'm happy with the Herts/Bucks system and also understand frustration with Oxford Fusion though i suspect it is a minority who are really bothered. But the output from the Herts administrator has changed over time in response to feedback through formal and informal channels. Sill seems a better appr...

Re: Chess in the community: library chess

I think if you want an explanation you are probably better off asking the funding partners - Paul's post suggests more than one sponsor - or Mr Lloyd, for more detail. As above a change in CSC national policy would be of interest to a wider audience, but I've not seen that suggested. And the funding...

Re: Chess in the community: library chess

John What you originally wrote acknowledged that you didn't understand the basis of the funding relationship, nor I assume the need for it, such that other bodies cannot step in. The evidence you have offered doesn't seem sufficient to satisfy me that CSC are wholly to blame. Was there no notice per...
