Nick Faulks wrote; 'Why would I not prefer to live in a country whose vaccination program has failed? Or is it that other governments, such as the Iranians', are by nature less repressive than ours.'
John Moore has cited evidence that the Iranians are more repressive.

Re: COVid19-What's wrong with UK?
The UK is better precisely because people have rights denied to them in Iran - rights which are rather more fundamental than being able to play chess. Those restrictions pre-date the pandemic and will continue when the pandemic is over.

Re: COVid19-What's wrong with UK?
I wasn't aware of the national championships taking place. Thanks for that information That isn't sufficient to justify describing Iran as less repressive than the UK. There is a difference between hyperbole and nonsense.

Re: COVid19-What's wrong with UK?
I have seen no reports that Iran permits the playing of chess at present. I have seen reports today that Iran is entering another period of lockdown because deaths are increasing. I am also aware that there are restrictions on Iranian citizens which impact who can play chess, the permitted dress for...

Well done! I assume this is the first outdoor event submitted for rating. Are there any examples of outdoor events having been submitted for grading in recent years?

Re: British Championship Congress 2021
There needs to be greater appreciation of those that do the boring stuff - venues don't get set up on their own. But you would be amazed how many times as members of the visiting club my players have effectively set up the room with the home captain just to ensure we get started and home in timely f...

Re: British Championship Congress 2021
Pure conjecture and somewhat bereft of evidence. I have received several inquiries over recent months asking when chess will resume including from somebody new who was quite insistent he was kept up to date. I doubt organisers of on-line events are getting similar correspondence. On-line has a part ...

Re: 2021 International Women of Courage
I'm not sure that the UK needs to go down this path. Any particular reason? I did look at last years list of awards to see if the change of administration might have made a noticeable difference. To somebody untrained in the international politics, there seemed to be very little difference. The form...

At the risk of prolonging this and moving the thread further from its core, I don't as a general rule quote from other posts when responding. But thank you for the lesson in using the forum.

Re: Queens Gambit and Netflix
John McKenna Your post simply reminded me of this issue, I've had exchanges with others where posts have also been modified, hence why i raised the point. I do recall posts which you have amended as many as half a dozen times. Obviously I cannot refer to any substantive changes as the earlier versio...

Re: Queens Gambit and Netflix
I've long stopped bothering to engage with some posters. But on a point of good forum practice - how many times should a poster be permitted to use the edit function to make substantive changes?

Re: Happy Birthday GM Raymond Keene OBE (29-i-1948)
I wasn't at university in 1984. I played my first Bucks league fixture that year. Richard Eales certainly played for Canterbury later in the decade.
