Re: 4NCL Online

There was a time when, if a team withdrew from a competition, its captain would politely apologise to the opposing team's captain for the inconvenience - arranging teams takes time and effort. The modern approach is to go straight to social media proclaiming a higher cause. I miss the old ways.

Final standings in abandoned leagues

A number of leagues, possibly all, are about to be abandoned for public health reasons before all of the matches are completed. Is there a protocol for deciding the final standings? Taking the current standings can be unfair if a team has yet to play some strong opposition. Cancelling the season is ...

On-line servers will still ban players because they feel like it, without the player concerned having any comeback.
As apparently happened to Ironaut who protested via YouTube.

You do wonder if the post-war Soviet dominance of chess might have been challenged a bit more if Crown and Junge had lived.
Junge died for the Nazi cause.
So Post-War Soviet dominance of chess might have been challenged if Germany had won WW2?
This is an unworthy consideration. Gulp!

Re: Health benefits of brain games

So far, no studies have shown that brain training prevents dementia. However, this is a relatively new area of research and most studies have been too small and too short to test any effect of brain training on the development of cognitive decline or dementia. Evidence suggests that brain training ...

Re: Steve Berry

This is sad news for players in southwest London. Kingston players knew him to be a very strong and resourceful opponent. He was playing at a consistently high level for decades. He was Surrey Chess Champion a record 12 times and the current holder, was British senior co-champion in 2017 & helped Wi...

Re: Cheating in chess

There is a way to turn this around. We have Losers Chess, why not have Cheaters Chess? Each participant is allowed to cheat in any way. If the method of cheating is discovered then the player is disqualified. We would need a counterfeit cash prize large enough to make it worth participating.
