Re: Counties and clubs

I've had a message in answer to an earlier point When 3Cs was formed in 1978 it was actually then based at Friezland school in Saddleworth, which was on "the wrong side" of the former Lancashire-Yorkshire boundary. In fact, the club's current headquarters is itself less than 100 yards "on't proper ...

Re: British Rapidplay 2024

Always an enjoyable tournament, and obviously you'll always hope you are avoiding the youngsters for as long as possible Only gripes I had about the weekend 1) The behaviour/respect to the clock needs better enforcement; one board next to me in one round had two kids playing "whack-a-mole" with the ...

Re: European Club Cup & Club Cup for Women 2023

At least you got it through that category whilst it still lasts; I believe I heard it somewhere that FIDE might be getting a little stricter on % score route at these events in the future, hopefully in my opinion tagging a performance rating element against it

Re: European Team Championship November 2023

Thanks. Overall though like many people said Fernandez should have been selected instead beforehand. There have been plenty of days in my job where I was ill and still worked... it does seem quite surprising to me that people get ill on the few days when they have the chance to play for England. I ...

Re: It's a Pity Historic Yorkshire Grades Are Lost...

Yet let's remember that when the new ECF grades came in any games players had previously played in local leagues seem to have been in effect ignored. Lost to history. I think you'll find with the majority of historic grading systems within the ECF, either national or local (local games weren't alwa...

Re: 4NCL Season 2023-24

Ideally I would still like to play for a team this season. I suspect if you want to be considered for a 4NCL team then you will need more games under you belt so you can provide the evidence of your strength, most organizers would see 1 game in 15 years and decide that isn't a risk worth taking, no...

Re: Isle Of Man International (Fide Grand Swiss)

According to the website 114 players are registered for the open but only 2 of them are English. Have we ever had a home event with such a disproportionate number of players registered for the open before? It also states the prize fund is $600,000. Have we ever hosted a tournament with a more gener...

Lol guys it was in a book ;) What's his highest ever rank pls? I know he played for Eng... somehow..... His highest rating was 2600 in July 1997, that was ranked 66 at the time; he dropped down after that https://www.olimpbase.org/Elo/player/Lalic,%20Bogdan.html Yes, he played for England once in t...

Re: Stream of Bilge Concerning Steven Jones

After reading through the comments it seems it is just one moron spouting crap with no evidence, and the rest of the forum shouting him down saying its unsubstantiated

Easy way to stop this stuff if website's like this actually moderate their comment sections correctly and remove said posts

Re: British Championship 2023

Thanks. Total guess, but does that make Sheila the first female winner of an adult open event at the British? Technically it's not open since you have to be over 65; but under them rules didn't Harriet and Ruth win junior sections back in the day? Edit : Ruth Sheldon, Harriet Hunt, Marieann Howard,...

Re: Test match at Lord's

Pity they can't have a reserve day like in the World Test Championship, the forecast is good tomorrow for Old Trafford It's raining in Port of Spain in the West Indies v India test, just 1 of those days They could have done, but it is entirely the ECB fault for packing the tests in such a small win...
