Re: Carlsen losing respect?...and mouse slips.

I think FIDE should factor in new laws to bring online and OTB chess closer together. If the cursor passes over or hovers above a pawn or piece in chess online, that should be included in the touch move law, and the player responsible should be forced to move the piece/or pawn hovered above or pass...

Re: Cheating in chess

....methodology can't be revealed. To varying extents this seems to be true of all online sites. An expansion: These sites believe to varying extents that their methodology is ineffective if it is made public or is reverse engineered by e.g. looking at games of alleged cheaters etc. There's also th...

Re: Would you like to become a millionaire?

I was hoping for some practical advice, which is rather lacking on this thread.

This is guaranteed to work: lend Donald Trump a billion dollars.

Re: Health benefits of brain games

Most of the dementia-garbage in the Press is simply clickbait. It trades on 'news' as fact; that is; a false optimism based on a presumably trusted source. Alas, as with much else, it retains a grip on beleaguered folk. "Bananas help arthritis"; "a poem a day keeps constipation at bay"; "Brexit mea...

Re: Chess Scotland headline

I still remember the 'Make Aimi McDonald a very rich lady' charity appeal on 'At Last the 1948 Show.'

Absolutely heartrending to see the problems she had that only a lot of money could cure.

Re: ECF Yearbook

As a historical tool the Yearbook is extremely useful but maybe the time has come to replace it with an on-line living document. The matter of historical record is important. AFAIK, the English Chess Federation's attitude on internet publishing varies from 'do not bother about archiving' to 'active...

Re: EU referendum aftermath

This one was not an open goal; Cameron hit the last shot of the match. Cameron waited till Corbyn had asked his allotted questions and so Corbyn had no opportunity to reply to this one. Some politicians would have seen this coming and got their retaliation in first. Corbyn probably reckoned Cameron...

Re: EU referendum aftermath

It's bad enough that a few dozen frontbench labour MPs have spontaneously resigned at two hourly intervals but when a highly respected prime minister whose only minor error has been getting the wrong result on his 'sure thing' referendum says It might be in my party’s interest for him to sit there. ...

Re: Performance Issues

Persistent login not enabled might be the problem iff combined with a long enough delay for timeout between starting and submitting the post....

Or if the ip address has changed as often happens with me, I sometimes have to reauthenticate.

Maybe phpbb is getting more security conscious?

Re: Court case

I don't accept pathetic excuses about the parents of these children being vunerable. No proper parent would ever allow a stranger to discipline or touch their child. I don't believe there's any country in the world where this won't happen without your consent if the authorities believe, rightly or ...

Re: ECF enewsletter

Those who are both ECF members and whose email address is known to the ECF Office will have seen this new initiative from the Publicity Manager. http://www.englishchess.org.uk/ecf-enewsletter-is-out/ I signed up for it a while ago. You don't (or didn't) have to be a member. Good to see the ECF now ...

I notice robot/spammer Williams has been a member of the other place since 15th December.
I expect he/she/it will disappear soon after this post.
