Re: Chess.com Isle Of Man Tournament 23 Sep to 1 Oct 2017
I thought most tiebreaks are affected by having a good start to an event. Presumably they have anticipated this in choosing to adopt this 1st round pairing system. I guess the only fair tiebreak now would be rating performance. Judging from his games at the World Cup, Caruana probably had hoped for ...

Re: LCC Open 2016 - U2050 players not welcome?
Title-norm tournaments don't particularly want U-2050 players, no, and certainly not to the extent of 30% of the field being U-2050. They aren't usually realistic norm-seekers themselves, and their low ratings make it harder for their opponents to achieve title norms. So why not restrict entry to t...

Re: 2016 Olympiad - Baku
I'm at least hoping for Wei Yi - Short. Will be a very tough match but if China rest Wang Yue (who lost today) it will give us a bit more of a chance IMO. A top ten finish would be on if England only had 1 player out of form but both McShane and Howell look a bit out of sorts. Hope I'm proved wrong....

Re: 2016 Olympiad - Baku
The cameras for the live coverage just showed a shot over the playing hall.
It (very briefly) showed Gawain Jones getting up from the black side of the board.

Re: England Olympiad teams announcement
With the exception of Adams at board 1, board order seems irrelevant for the rest of the team. It is hard to think of 4 top players of any nationality whose form has been more inconsistent over the past few years. I was hoping that enough players would decline selection to give Jonathan Hawkins a mu...

Does the format change over the course of the event from quickplay to long play?
I note the quarter/semi finals each take place over a day whilst the 6 game final is scheduled over 6 days

Re: European Team Championship 13-22 November 2015
Excited to note England appear to have their strongest team out.
England and Russia seem to have opted out of having a non-playing GM captain. I seem to recall that Peter Wells normally fulfils this role for England. Anyone aware of the reason why he is not captain for this competition?

Re: Use of Technology at the British Championships
I think the resource/time issue is a bit of a red herring. IMO It has been more of a rather disrespectful attitude to the on-line audience of the commentary. Most of the problems with the online broadcast have cropped up near the beginning of the sessions. Despite acknowledging these problems relati...

Re: London Chess Classic 2015
At the Kings Place Rapidplay last week it was announced that Michael Adams had accepted his invitation to play in the Classic. It was also confirmed that there would be no Super Rapidplay Open this year presumably due to the increase in the number of players (and playing rounds). I have provisionall...

Books for sale
As I am reducing the amount of competitive chess I am playing I thought it appropriate to reduce the amount of chess books I currently own, especially the ones that were heat of the moment purchases. There are 20 books, all in mint condition, which I would like to sell in one go so if anyone wants t...

Re: Carlsen - Anand 2014
Saw this excerpt from an interview with Anand''s wife on Chess.com. How do you feel about playing in Sochi? Do you share Carlsen team's worries about the many uncertainties? “Like we have said before, a world championship match in Russia always has a special place. In 2012 the RCF treated Anand with...

London Chess Classic
I noticed the Schedule of the London Chess Classic has been published on the website. The main event this year will be a six player all-play-all classical event. I suspect the players will be Adams, McShane(?), Jones, Howell + 2 others not playing in either World Championships, World Mind Games (Bei...

Not sure how much you can grind in the position that Adams has got.....Hope to be eating my words in a couple of hours.
