That's a bit unfair. What about Andrey Esipenko, the world's top under 16 player?

The clearly barking Makropoulos mob accuse Dvorkovich & Short of a joint campaign. Right
It does sound an odd combination, but stranger things have been seen. Remember the Campo/Kasparov double act in 1994.

Re: Tony Miles - the Ultimate Humiliation

I imagine that changing the FIDs of players who have reused numbers would be difficult and would in any case create more problems than it solved. The 2007 decision to stop this practice was certainly a good one.

Re: Tony Miles - the Ultimate Humiliation

According to the Olimpbase files (http://www.olimpbase.org/Elo/data/elo1967-2001.zip) Tony Miles FIN was 403385. Go along to the FIDE Rating site and type it in the search box and you get another player altogether. Click on "Click to view all previous periods" , scroll down to the bottom of the scr...

That's as maybe, Roger, but I do find myself wondering, in a not-born-yesterday kind of way, how this particular chap came across this particular piece of information
It's hard to believe that Malcolm would have directed him to Agon for his quotes.

No prizes for this rusible Telegraph piece
Indeed, even by normal standards this is a particularly idiotic piece. It's not often you see Ilya Merenzon presented as the face of all that is good about FIDE.

If they draw and USA wins it will depends on game points.
Where USA would be ahead, so England must win tomorrow. Barring highly unexpected results their opponents will be out of medal contention, probably happy to take four draws and get the next bus home, but that won't do.

Re: World Senior Team Championships, Dresden 2018

The Americans have done their job for us, albeit a bit too well. Shouldn't complain, England will have matters in their own hands tomorrow, but only a win will do.

Re: Who is our next Adams?

I more or less agree, but there are exceptions. It seems Lasker didn't even learn to play until he was 11 years old! You don't have to go back that far. Speelman and Nunn hit the top 100 at 23/4 and went on to spend time at the highest level. I don't think you can do that now. All but one of today'...

Re: Which Candidate Should the ECF Support in the FIDE Presidential Election? (Take 2)

But whose idea was it to have an Ethics Commission in the first place? I've really no idea. I have always assumed it is just something that all such organisations have, and dates back to pre-Campo times when things were much less fractious. Surely their original brief would have been to prosecute o...

Roger and I have known each other forever and get along perfectly well. I suggest that you keep your playground attempts at stirring for academia, where I assume they work well.

Dangerous playthings, ethics commissions.
Since Kirsan renounced all of his powers as President, haven't you been one of the people commenting that he was travelling round the world behaving as though he still retained them? What other decision could EC have reached?

Re: Which Candidate Should the ECF Support in the FIDE Presidential Election? (Take 2)

Isn't Spraggett on to something here with this FIDE delegate-bribery stuff when he declares that Makropoulos confesses to criminal behaviour. Does anyone know what he's on about? He says he posted about this $80,000 in 2014, but I'm not going to wade through four years of his site to find it. Searc...

James is up a pawn in 2 rooks and knight vs 2 rooks and bishop. James has the knight. James is probably winning.
