Re: Peter Poobalasingam
I was shocked when I read the tragic news. For someone so talented, Peter was the most modest and unassuming person I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I met him as a junior, as he started playing on the junior circuit about the same time as I started controlling on it. He was everywhere, with his...

Re: 2nd GM norm for Daniel Fernandez
A few months back, there was a thread about the Whitley quadrangular from about 1997. The American Daniel Fernandez played for the USA in that event.

Re: Travelliing to Llandudno
TRAVEL ALERT If anyone is considering using the A41 between the M54 jn 3 and Chester, please be aware that the road is closed between the A5 junction just past the M54 and the A518 junction just outside Newport, Shropshire. There is a 15 minute detour via Telford. I found this out last night as I wa...

David, I like your answer.
I have asked Classic FM what the actual question was, but have not had a reply yet.

Re: Media comments on chess
This week's "New European" newspaper has an article from Garry Kasparov critical of President Putin interfering in European affairs. The cover picture of the newspaper shows Putin as a Red King, with Red and White pawns scattered around a chess board in the background. I haven't read the article yet.

One junior male (not home grown, and even then only in 68th place) and not a single junior female in the latest FIDE top 100 ranking lists (unless I've miscounted?). :( This should be in Loz Cooper's December Rating List thread. I have made comments about our top juniors in the equivalent October a...

Re: Improbability.
I am confused by this thread. There is a reference above to a link to a post by Paul Georgiou. I am not aware that he is or ever has been on this forum. As regards its main point, odds of 16000 to 1 mean the probability of such a long sequence happening to Keith is extremely low. However considering...

A great pity but fully understandable. I was planning to make my debut as a 4NCL player in the minor section.

Re: November 2015 FIDE Rating List
A pity that David has dropped out of the 2700 club. Is Luke at his highest ever rating? I wont be continuing the top juniors ratings list I started last month. Only three juniors over 2200 have played any games in the last month. There will be major changes next month, but considering the volatility...

Speaking personally, I like the title of Fide Arbiter (FA), as it suggests I am involved with the Football Association.

The Bottom Line, Saturday afternoon, Radio 4 discussed Sponsorship. No mention of chess, but plenty of references to sport, and the reputational damage that can be inflicted on a sponsor if the organisation sponsored has a problem
