Re: John Philpott

Like everyone I was very saddened to hear of John's death. He was one of the great rocks of English and Essex chess for so many years, as player, captain and administrator. I knew him best as Essex U180 captain, which role he filled for a very long time, and I think he must have been the most effici...

Re: Plaskett and Woffinden's book on the "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" Fraud

I haven't read the book, but I have read Jim Plaskett on this before (e.g. http://james-plasketts-coincidence-diary.blogspot.co.uk/2006/03/more-explanation.html). I have also read lengthy articles with compelling evidence that the earth was created on 26 October 4004 BC, others proving that the moo...

Plaskett and Woffinden's book on the "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" Fraud

I have just read Bob Woffinden and Jim Plaskett's book "Bad Show", an enthralling account of the "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" fraud, or supposed fraud, of 2001. The book makes a very strong case for the innocence of the Ingrams and Tecwyn Whittock, and argues that they were the subject of a misc...

Re: Hollywood film about Fischer-Spassky

James Byrne wrote:I always hoped that if there was ever a movie about Fischer, Nicolas Cage would be cast as him.
I have always thought that James Woods would be ideal casting as Fischer, both because of his facial resemblance and his line in brash, forceful characters.

Re: Barbaric Genius

Does anyone have any idea if the film is out on DVD, or if it is still being shown in cinemas, and if so, where?

Thanks

Re: Who would have won had Anatoly Karpov played Bobby Fisch

I think the Fischer of 1972 would have beaten the Karpov of 1975, but I am not so sure that the Fischer of 1975 would have beaten the Karpov of 1975, because it depends on the extent to which Fischer had deteriorated in the three years during which he had played no competitive chess. Of course we ca...

Attaching chessbase files

How do I attach a Chessbase file?

When I attempt to do so I am told that file extensions .cbh not allowed, and likewise .pgn not allowed.
