Re: Using Microsoft Teams for club meetings ?

You can stop zoom bombing by setting up the meeting with a waiting room (you only let in those you want), having microphones off by default and limiting screen sharing to the host. I'm not sure if the last one is possible in the free version of zoom. Edit: and using a password for each meeting whic...

Re: Losing 74 Nil and covid 19

Roger thank you very much for your post. It too was a silver lining amongst a black cloud. To build any initiative you need to address the limiting factors. There is underlying my post 4 limiting factors. 1 is to find the coaches 2. it to find the players and 3 is to resource the teaching material. ...

Losing 74 Nil and covid 19

An open letter to EC forumites Dear Forumites My daughter Abi is like many others locked own with her two boys, Asher and Jonah, aged 4 and 6 and her husband Dave. Dave fortunately has a job but Abi is climbing the walls as she now has to entertain her two boys all day every day (no nursery or schoo...

Re: Online chess for young players

Thanks Adam - i have some very heartening feedback. It got me thinking about how we as chess players should respond to COVID 19 crisis or to paraphrase a well known phrase "what did you do in the COVID 19 crisis, Daddy?". Is my village and family is anything to go by there are lots of young couples ...

Re: Online chess for young players

Many years ago, a member of my club, who taught at a Middle School, had started a chess club there and asked if I would do a simul there. I agreed, and asked how many pupils were playing. "Oh, about 200." "WHAT!? How many pupils are there? "Just over 200." "That's amazing." "Well once enough got in...

Re: Online chess for young players

When concentrating on ensuring children in need FSM have a meal to eat we realised the same 40% Primary age have no access to internet at home. challenging For Schools to educate them. Not as if benefits pay enough. I'm pleased that your parents have a choice and you are tapping into CSC and Richar...

Zoom appears to be on a barred list Education and Childrens services. Any thoughts on the video or the general concept David.

Re: Chess once we restart over the board

Personally I think we should be talking about why the English chess federation has not given Tim Onions an award not about whether we close clubs. To the best of my recollection, I have never heard of Tim Onions, which may say more about me than it does about him. However, if you feel that he is de...

Re: Chess once we restart over the board

You seem very engaged in this thread considering you dismissed its value in your opening post. I have never found it easy to ignore suggestions that club chess is about to die, which have been around for as long as I can remember. As I have said, I see no reason to worry about that in my neck of th...

Re: Chess once we restart over the board

Well yes - its no more than an assessment on the basis of knowledge at the time of responding, but some of us are aware of players who no longer drive to away fixtures, and in the same way as that has to be taken into account, there will be elderly vulnerable club members less likely to return post...
