Re: ECF Tournament Rules

And a thank you to Brian also from me.
I as beginning to think I was cracking up.
I was unaware of the ECF's change of policy.
Isn't communication a wonderful thing. I'll now ask the ECF Chief Arbiter when she finishes bringing dinner why I wasn't informed of the change :D
(I did the dessert!!)

Re: ECF Tournament Rules

Even FIDE have dropped zero time defaults. That is only partially true. In practice zero time defaults have of course disappeared, but Rules Commission did manage to slip "If the default time is not specified, then it is zero" into the version of the Laws applicable from 1.7.2017. Nick's version is...

Re: Hastings 2018-19

The time control for events other than the Maters is indeed all moves in 110mins with 10 sec increments.

Edit correcting typo.

Re: Cheating in chess

A player is accused of cheating. He is asked about his phone. He leaves the tournament hall without handing over his phone. He returns and hands over a switched off phone. Was he followed out of the hall when he didn't immediately hand over his phone? It is stated that it is not known if the phone w...

Re: Which Candidate Should the ECF Support in the FIDE Presidential Election?

I would have thought that the adviser might be more of a D.J.

Someone well acquainted with the inner workings of FIDE and would certainly strike the right notes.

Re: Director of Women's Chess

My recollections of the Council Meeting and the application from Casual Chess. It started off with a request for £6k per year. This was changed to a one off of £6k. This figure, at some point, was halved but it was still presented as all or nothing. When it was indicated that a detailed budget would...

Re: British championship grading sections in the main event

Hint, run a rating report on a copy of the existing data with all players below X reset to X. Assuming those people want to know how they are getting on each round it is not as easy as it may seem. If you simply change all the people below the threshold then you could get someone who played a 2100 ...

Re: Probably a record?

It would have to be not FIDE rated Why can it not be FIDE rated? FIDE Regulations There must be no more than 12 hours play in one day. This is calculated based on games that last 60 moves, although games played using increments may last longer Even if you take 'a day' to mean any period of 24 hours...

Caught again

Bjørnsen, the blind Norwegian who was given a 2 year suspension for cheating has been caught again. http://mattogpatt.no/2018/05/24/siste-stein-bjornsen-ekskluderes-fra-norsk-sjakk/ His opponent this time was a 9 year old girl. Her father took a video which clearly showed a device in his hand. This ...

Re: Div 3 North 2017 - 18

All I will say is that it is just as well that no-one is in contention for a norm because I don't see how anyone could reproduce this year's pairings. :D :D I can just about justify it on minimising floats. In reality it saved me having to guess the results of the top two matches to balance colours...

Re: Durham Congress

I shall be there and demand I win all my games by default and am then sent the relevant money prizes...all of it. Hi Geoff, I turned out to meet you last night and again this morning. You didn't show on either occasion and therefore are defaulted so fail to win first prize. We still await your entr...
