Passive Exchange Sacrifices and Refusing to Take the Exchange
I am stunned at the recent number of elite players who without being forced give up the exchange then go down in flames. On the other hand I've seen sometimes the same players refusing to take the exchange when offered by other players, sometimes when the compensation and counterplay for their oppon...

Re: The Streatham & Brixton Chess Blog
Today's Times chess column could have been written as a celebration of the demise of the S&B blog: ignoring the Candidates match in favour of a main course of another re-run for GK v Deep Blue a quarter of a century ago, with a side order of the columnist's own proclaimed role in setting it up, and...

Re: The Streatham & Brixton Chess Blog
Ouch. That is not entirely fair. Blogs come and blogs go. I've never seen a blog blog about their demise but they did.Martin Regan wrote:The blog that always demanded explaination and transparancy. Goes out without either.
Why am I not surprised.
Though sorry to see it go.

Re: Does anyone else Bet on Chess?
Ok I don't bet on chess but I was contacted by a betting firm who wanted a chess consultant to help them work out how to "arrange their product for optimal impact on routes to market". I don't know what made me a candidate for that role but I was running a chess tournament news feed at the time I su...

Is Chess Elitest?
In my chess circles we welcome new members. We also make no assumptions about their chess knowledge or worthiness to play in our circle we just accept them as chess players. And by chess circle I mean any gather online or offline (real world/OTB club/OTB tournament/OTB match play) I have however not...

Re: Questions on conduct during a game
Michael Mkpadi I was just giving an example of how sombody might have pressed the clock without making a move. Let us suppose he touches no piece, his opponent moved, his clock is running. There is no crowding. He presses the clock. It is clearly wrong. But, in my opinion it is an illegale action, ...

"...probably..." I'd change that to certainly Mr. Hikaru Nakamura. Video cameras don't lieRay Sayers wrote:
Basically says it's not a big deal, he 'probably did' touch the king and blames Levon for making a big deal of it.

Re: Should there be a separate British Women's Championship?
I think Gibraltar Open is a brilliant tournament and I think the blueprint for inclusive gender chess tournaments. The segregation of chess played by women is reinforcing old stereotypes and not challenging them. The Womens US championships has not advanced the cause for women but detracted from it....

Is Hikaru Nakamura the Scapegoat for Agon's Failure to Enforce its own Rules on its Broadcasts?
Hikaru Nakamura didn't show for his press conference after his defeat at the hands of Levon Aronian after that incident with the black king. Within hours of that happening World Chess posted on their Facebook page: Here is a video profile of Hikaru Nakamura. The profile is funny and provides some ba...

Well considering it will cost him 10% of his earning to date at the Candidates he'll be suitably reticent.JustinHorton wrote:I wonder if he'll be asked about Thursday's events today.

Well the blog can live on in our hearts. I am thinking of running a tribute blog in their style and tone. Dunno if that is a tribute or mockery.

Re: Chess Pawn or Chess Porn?
What really took the biscuit was when one of our co-admin on a chess page about 4 years ago now suggested we post a photo of female chess players at the board in tournaments every day to raise the profile of chess played by women. There would be information about their FIDE rating, federation and in...
