Re: Reports from Direct Members' representatives

"Hi Tim, I fully agree that officials looking to stay in post is bad for the game, the last thing we want is the “godlike” figure who has been in post for 20 years and nobody will contradict them (Sepp Blatter springs to mind). " What in the name of God is this supposed to be. Sepp Blatter was and ...

Re: Reports from Direct Members' representatives

to suggest, as Tim has done, that the situation is comparable to Soviet Russia [with Tim presumably casting himself as the chess equivalent of Alexei Navalny] is risible. It is, but the comparison is to contemporary rather than Soviet Russia. And it's a rather strange comparison comi g from somebod...

Re: Four rounds to go: would you bet on Nepo or the rest?

For what it's worth Matt Fletcher's model has 57% Nepo, though I do not think psychological elements are factored in.

Re: Candidates Tournament 2020

And it was pretty embarrassing, wasn't it? It was an absolutely standard Reti position.

If he draws out (and I think he could do better) then one of Caruana, Giri or MVL will need to score three
Giri would need three and a half, I think?

I voted for the others, the potential for nerves being the deciding factor.

Re: Candidates Tournament 2020

You're quite right. Friday is a holiday here and it's put me out of whack. (I know that doesn't entirely make sense, but that's kind of the point.)

Four rounds to go: would you bet on Nepo or the rest?

Obviously Nepo is favourite, but I found myself pondering whether it was more likely that he would win than not. What do you reckon? I reckon it's a close call. (For the record, the odds the bookies are offering on his winning seem to be a little less attractive than this: currently 5/3 on.) Feel fr...

Re: Candidates Tournament 2020

Nepo a point clear now going into the rest day. On the assumption that against Caruana in round 11 (a) nerves don't get the better of him (b) he just hoovers everything from the board asap That will leave him a point clear with only three games to go. Hard to see Caruana coming back from that. Mayb...

Re: Candidates Tournament 2020

Last game of the day is Wang v Grischuk, which is also drawn though Black in particular had a probably winning edge after White sacrifced unsoundly.

Nepo a point clear now going into the rest day.

Caruana v Ding is drawn, perhaps to Fabi's relief after he went astray in a strong position

Re: Candidates Tournament 2020

Something of a companion piece to the game he saved yesterday (albeit not remotely so drastic).

Good result for Nepo.

Re: Candidates Tournament 2020

Alekseenko, not to be outdone, is down to his last three minutes with nineteen moves to go. He's also even more busted than MVL was yesterday.
