Re: JM Soesan Coincidence
Joe Soesan a very pleasant man. He was involved with the Ilford Congress in the 1950's. The 1951 BCM has an advert for the Ilford Congress which gives his address as 72 Cranbrook Rise, Ilford. The 1953 BCM has a photograph of the Ilford committee on page 162. It includes Dr. B.Sturgeon, L.Glyde and ...

Re: Battle of Britain Tournaments?
I saw the Trophy once when I played the then holder Jim Scholes. However I think it must have had an encounter with an ME 109 as one of the wings was detached.

Re: European Senior Team Championships 2019
Sorry to hear the news about Petra Nunn.
I hope the health care in Mali Losinj is adequate.
I’m sure everyone wishes her a speedy recovery.

Re: British Championship Congress 2019
This year both Senior Championships ended in a three way tie. In the last five years the British over 65 has ended in a tie for first place four times. The only time there was an outright winning was in 2016. Modesty prevents me from naming the winner. With the large number of players of similar str...

Re: Milunka Lazarevic
Dinah remembers beating Lazarevic at Belgrade 1969.
Lazarevic was recently married and played under the name Markovic.
We don't have the game score but it would be listed as Dobson v Markovic.

Re: Surrey Chess Congress October 26-28
The entry form is very clear to me as are Mike's words. I also liked the photo from the 1st Kingston Rapidplay. An excellent team running the congress. There are hotels in Kingston, car parks, and excellent public transport routes. A lovely town centre, facilities, and the River. A fantastic end to...

Re: British Championship 2018
Does anyone know what caused the change to the board two pairing in the last round of the British over 65 Seniors? On Board one Kevin Bowmer 5/6 was paired against Geoff James 5/6. On Board two Oliver Jackson 4.5/6 was due to play Tom Bimpson 4.5/6. When I arrived at the venue Bimpson was shown as w...

Re: Division Four (South) 2017-18
Looks like three teams (Surbiton, CSC2 and Iceni 1) promoted out of Division 4S with four (Anglian Avengers 2, The Full Ponty, Hackney, West is Best 3) being relegated from Division3S. Also one definite new team, Watford 2, for 2018-19. Four teams relegated from division three but only three promot...

Re: Senior opportunities in 2018
I think this is too much of a generalisation When I queried why Senior events held in Germany had all games starting at 9.30 I was told this was a concession to decadent foreigners, with the local players preferring something earlier. I have played in a number of tournaments in Germany since I reti...

Re: World Senior Championships, Nov. 2017 Acqui Terme
Perhaps the question you should be asking is why did the 4NCL chose a weekend that clashed with the World Seniors Championship?Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2017 2:46 pm
Why are the top England players not there? Other commitments? Lack of funding? Was the ECF involved in any of the co-ordination?
