David Lloyd played for RAE Farnborough.Kevin Thurlow wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 8:42 amThanks for the identification of Cobham, we played them occasionally, I suspect when Redhill fell into Division 2. I now realise that R1 probably meant Redhill match, board 1. I also played DE Lloyd (in 1975) - I think he played for RAE Farnborough?

Re: World championship match in Astana
Apparently there is a so called World Championship being held somewhere in the middle of Asia between two nonentities.
I have never heard of either of them.
I hope the claim of the winner to be a World Champion will be met with the derision it deserves.

Barry Sandercock
Barry Sandercock died peacefully yesterday 21st February 2023 at home after a long illness. He was 92 years old. After he retired Barry became a very active tournament player. He travelled all over England playing as far north as Grange over sands. He was a regular player at Paignton, Guernsey, Hast...

Re: FIDE senior events in 2023
If Paignton does reappear it would be a good idea for a Seniors section to be included.
This would go someway to compensate for the lose of the Beacon Seniors.

Re: World Senior Chess Championship 14 – 27 November 2022 Assisi – Umbria Italy
I think my daughter had a worse example at the Birmingham Open last weekend. 80+10 time control. She was down to 10 second increment and had been for a while. Her opponent had at least 20 minutes on the clock. In a losing position he starts blitzing out 10 or 20 immediate response moves, trying to ...

Re: European Senior Team Championships Dresden 2022
It is remarkable that England has won the European over 50's Team Championship and the over 50's and over 65 World Team Championship when there is very little organized Seniors Chess in England. The British Seniors over 50 and over 65 are the only Seniors tournaments regularly held in England. If yo...

Re: Arbiting Question
I have occasionally encountered an opponent who makes his move after I have made my move but before I have pressed the clock. I find this action distracting. That is presumably why they do it. Is his action legal? I've seen players in time pressure follow the sequence move move clock clock. That's ...

Clearly the sensible decision would be to make Torquay the permanent venue for the British Championships.

Kevin,
Your recent posts seem to be irrelevant to the original topic. Unless you have proof that the ladies flying from Croydon to Bagdad wore monocles and were pipe smokers.
