Re: Which Candidate Should the ECF Support in the FIDE Presidential Election? (Take 2)

Of course, I understand why the ECF Board decided to go along with the presumed wishes of HMG, which may perhaps have been imparted to some of them, but isn't that what the Israeli federation is in the line for expulsion for even allegedly thinking about doing? Where would you draw the line, Nick? ...

Re: 2018 World Championship in London

"For Sat 10 (R2), Mon 12 (R3), Thu 15 (R5), Fri 16 (R6), Sun 18 (R7) November, for general admission tickets, I got "Tickets not currently available from Ticketmaster"." Admittedly, it doesn't seem likely with this event, but that normally means someone has bought loads of tickets with the intentio...

Re: 2018 World Championship in London

How successful have people been in booking tickets? The original day I wanted to go, the ticketmaster website said there were no tickets available, so I had to pick a different day. Maybe the venue actually has quite a small capacity. For Fri 9 November (round 1), only VIP tickets at £600 are availa...

Re: Media comments on chess

Watching both now. Simultaneously, like David Bowie in The Man Who Fell To Earth? Sadly not. :D The chess bit did feature Athenaeum Chess Club (those who have been there will recognise the playing room). It runs from 07:25 to 11:35, and Nick Pert (I think) is one of the chess players there (unless ...

Re: Media comments on chess

An Athenaeum CC member who reads my columns sent me the item below. Could be interesting. How much of the chess club filming will survive into the actual programme ? Athenaeum Chess Club on TV next Tuesday 4 September at 9.00 p.m on BBC 4 The BBC came to the Athenaeum Chess Club a couple of months ...

Re: What is a Bona Fide Member of a Chess Club

Heh. If you think the different leagues up and down the country would listen to what the Director of Home Chess said... The occupants of that office over the years know better than to get involved in local disputes like that. (They have enough to deal with in the disputes from the competitions they ...

Re: What is a Bona Fide Member of a Chess Club

I say, can we nitpick grammar as well?

"an bona fide member"??

(Seriously, is some of the ill will here spilling over from the Facebook thread mentioned earlier?)

Re: 2019 British

So they've been to Hastings, and they've been to Brighton, and they've been to Eastbourne too? Yes, but different times, different sizes of events, and presumably different venues. I don't suppose a full list exists anywhere of the numbers participating and the exact details of the venues used? Som...

Re: 2019 British

If the details here on this Wikipedia page are accurate: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Chess_Championship Then it has been held in Brighton five times. That page says there was no contest in 1927 - was a related event held in London that year? Hastings five times (but only a Women's Champion...

Re: 2019 British

This will be the 5th time the British has been at The Riviera Centre. 1998, 2002, 2009, 2013, 2019. Does this mean the arbiter will have to declare the whole event drawn? If so, who will be the artist selected? i think it rather likely that The Riviera Centre already holds the record as the most vi...

Some nice puzzles here. Maybe when the final reports are out they could be grouped together with the answers also provided?

Re: English Women's Championship 2018

https://www.englishchess.org.uk/the-2018-english-womens-championships/ Hopefully in the actual event the boards will be the right way round! That link doesn't work any more. They've now replaced it with another, which has a picture with a very unusual board! - https://www.englishchess.org.uk/watch-...

That is excellent! Hopefully confirmation soon as to what medal Akshaya has won.
Looks from the photo on the ECF website that Akshaya got more than a medal :)
Yes - a DIPLOMA!
And a TROPHY! :D

Alan Tate may make progress (again!) to the IM title (I think he was badly advised when he got to 2399)
When was this and can you give more details? (Asking purely out of curiosity.)
