Re: Reykjavik 2024

Bodhana plays a French IM tomorrow. Her first titled player since round 1. No more double-round days. Three more rounds to go. Dan Fernandez leading the England pack with 4.5/6. Both on a run of 3/3. Elsewhere, Nigel Povah plays the undefeated Ifan Rathbone-Jones (WLS).

Re: Reykjavik 2024

Dan Bisby will be aware that GMs are difficult to beat! 3/4 is a good start though. He now finds himself facing Andrea Botez so his game is being streamed to more than 15000 viewers on the BotezLive Twitch channel with commentary by GM Jon Ludvig Hammer. Some norms look vaguely possible. Mayb...

Re: Reykjavik 2024

No fairy-tale ending. Dan Bisby fell into a rather cruel stalemate trap when he was a few checks away from forcing resignation... (now level in evaluation, a pure KRB v KR position).

Re: Reykjavik 2024

Dan Bisby might be on the verge of another giant-killing against his second GM in a row:

Re: Bletchley Park female codebreakers

The answer appears to lie in postings on LinkedIn by a Gary Kenworthy who appears to be the same as the chess FM. Unless it is someone pretending to be him. You would hope this thread could stay on topic, on the possible chess connections of the female codebreakers.

Bletchley Park female codebreakers

There is a mention of Stuart Milner-Barry here: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/mar/17/cambridge-newnham-college-alumnae-bletchley-park-codebreakers " Cambridge college unmasks alumnae who were Bletchley Park codebreakers " (Guardian article) Lots of connections with Newnham College: "These i...

Re: Reykjavik 2024

While I would expect Dan Bisby to bring home the win now, things were not so straightforward for Dan Fernandez, who lost a theoretically drawn rook endgame. Which looks a bit careless from here. Not entirely sure what happened there.

Re: Reykjavik 2024

Oh dear. Peter Large's game ended somewhat unfortunately. Though Matthew Wadsworth has drawn his game.

Dan Bisby has a complex but apparently level position against his GM (Prraneeth Vuppala, 2506).

(EDIT: Dan may be able to win with his extra exchange, now at move 40.)

Zh Jiner v Peter Large great result
White's heavy pieces build-up on the kingside looked menacing, but a horrendous blunder came on move 27 from the 21-year-old Chinese GM (she attained the GM title last year).

Re: Reykjavik 2024

IM Peter Large won his Round 2 game against a 2467 GM from China (Jiner Zhu). IM Matthew Wadsworth also on 2/2 but was the rating favourite in both his games. IM Stephen Mannion (SCO) is still playing his game against GM Vladislav Nevednichy (but is probably losing). Ifan Rathbone-Jones (WLS) got a ...

Re: Reykjavik 2024

She (Bodhana) is playing in a lot of events! (This is good, but was wondering what, if anything, is 'normal' when developing as a chess player, is it whatever suits the player best - do some players play intensively and then train/learn - I know some other prodigies have revealed their approaches - ...
