Women's chess (1938 and 1993)
A couple of chess history queries that I hope some here can help with: 1) Bob Kane posted a link to this elsewhere, it deserves to be reposted here: http://whitenoise.city/articles/queen-to-w4-women-chess-and-west-london/ 'Queen to W4: Women, Chess and West London' The video clip of Elaine Saunders ...

Re: Media comments on chess
Hmm. Four-sided chess. OK, let's be charitable, it is consultation chess. The UK only has four pieces (two pawns, a knight and a queen). Maybe the UK king is hiding in the obscured lower left corner? The EU have a full complement of pieces. Apparently the first two rows on each side are not being us...

Can those out there with access to British Championship records track down the year of this British Championship and some more details?

Re: Media comments on chess
From Pep Guardiola: The Man City manager described as football's Che Guevara (BBC Sport): Guardiola is a sponge, keen to learn from anyone from England rugby union coach Eddie Jones to chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov. Perhaps on some level he is making up for his lack of structured education. Googl...

Re: ECF Finance meeting 2018
That's a great pity. Can you give more details?
Was the organisation the problem, or did some (or not enough) teams not turn up, or was it both?

Re: FIDE internal fighting
 You feel sorry for some of the sensible people there who are trying to make the best of a bad business... Mr. Vega said he is the eldest person present at the meeting, He wanted to speak as an old man. We should stop the discussion now. We do not want to see the harsh exchange between Presid...

Re: Media comments on chess
Passing mention of chess here: How ancient DNA is transforming our view of the past (BBC) A fascinating article, well worth reading in its own right. The chess comment is about one of the people doing the research, called Nick Paterson (this is a mis-spelling of Nick Patterson): Paterson has an extr...

Hardly worth mentioning, as it is only a token analogy with chess (in the headline and opening sentence):

Re: America want the World Title Match
Chris W has a point. Have a look at this potted history of the collapse of the attempt to find a sponsor for a match against Kasparov from 1998 onwards, with Shirov infamously missing out on playing for the world title: https://sites.google.com/site/caroluschess/world-championship-match/1998-shirov-...

Re: America want the World Title Match
Does anyone think Carlsen could (or would) throw a spanner in the works? Presumably he would have to agree to this, or can his wishes be ignored if there is enough money involved? (I'd personally love to see the match in London and would go and watch, but am realistic enough to realise that things a...

McShane-Matlakov drawn by repetition after 27 moves. The other two top board games are going the distance, with the White players clearly trying to win the tournament and take the title.

Re: Candidates Tournament in Berlin March 2018
I sometimes have difficulty following the ganes live. If some kind person is willing, could they post updates (results and key positions and moves) during the final round? Either that or a link to a simple site that only gives results and moves without a display or analysis. Thanks. Time for a quick...
