Re: Rapid events with over rated players.

Thanks for all the comments guys. My original post was addressing some players who were playing rapid events and there fide rapid wasn’t being effected. Even tho they got in via there fide rating. But I may of missed a few players. My original issue was with Michael Inzani. I thought he was getting ...

Rapid events with over rated players.

Iv recently started to play again after death of my mum last year. And have looked a few local events. And there are players playing in u1700 events even though they are 1900/2000 ecf ratings. One player has won every single u1700 event he has played in. 5 of them. And even one u1450. How is this al...

Re: Caplin Hastings 2023-24

Gutted I couldn’t make it this year. My mum passed in July. And now I have to look after the dogs. And getting away is just a lot of hassle or tricky. Plus now I am more financially insecure. But I was looking through the results. And Wondered how a 1847 was allowed in u1600. A Player who has beaten...

Re: Geoff Gammon

My fav arbiter. Very sad. Wish I got to know him better. He seemed so friendly and funny. Already made a post on fb about him and replied to the news. Big loss to chess world.

Re: Keith Spooner

Totally devastated to see this. 🙁🥺. Keith was one of the greatest characters on the chess circuit. I was so drawn to him as he was me. 2 years ago due to covid etc and having not seen Keith in a while I contacted his local chess club. And they gave me his number after asking him If it was ok. He was...

Re: Adrian (Kelly) Riley

Oh just seen this. Used to see him at Paignton. He was a character. He used to watch a lot of my games. And I remember an intense game between him and shaddick that ended in a draw. A few heated exchanges and banging of the clock made for an interesting watch as I was on next table. Will miss him.

Re: Barry Sandercock

A great man. A gentle man. A lovely man. But as you'll see from the position beneath, he also reserved the right to employ the occasional double-cross! Barry came to Kos for the ACO Amateurs in 2018 with his wife, daughter & son-in-law - a 90th birthday family treat. He got off to a flying start an...

Re: Alan Fraser 1933-2022

Very sad to see this. Not checked forum for a while. Alan was my 2nd or 3rd opponent ever in chess 13 years ago. Otb as an adult I mean. We would go on to battle 26 more times. I’m pretty sure nobody played eachother more on the circuit from 2010 till I last played him around 2017 ish. We were the 2...

Re: British Championship Congress 2022

Me and Tim Hilton nearly done the commentary as a fun 10/15 mins in place of Danny G and Adam hunt at the last Torquay British haha. If the money is right we will do it. I will play my games in the commentary room and do the commentary as well 😆

Re: British Championship Congress 2022

Entries reached 744 this morning - that’s up by more than 200 since I posted this time last week. Having said that 190 of the total are blitz & rapidplay entries. Some days we’re getting more than one update so there might be more names by this evening. Peter Wells becomes the sixth GM alongside Ni...

Re: John Macdonald

Sad to see this. I tried to contact John on a few occasions after Tim Crouch died. I had John’s Email and phone number. I didn’t call. But sent a text. And an email asking if he was ok. We used to chat via email quite a bit back in 2018. And I used to see and chat with John often. He was definitely ...

Re: Mike Bolan

Very sad. Only played him once at Paignton Congress in 2016. At this point I did not go over my games any more with my opponents unless something really Interesting happened. But he was so friendly and nice and I remember him asking me to look at the game and I said yeah sure. We had a really fun la...

Re: John Naylor 1972-2020

Played tonight in memory of John even though I didn’t want to. But felt it a nice way to pay tribute to him. I never met the guy but out of everyone on the internet I have never met I think I was closest to John. Been too gutted to even post on this forum post. I spoke with John many hours a day ove...
