Re: Reykjavik 2024

Surely the Pollack game didn't end like that? He had a winning endgame and just dropped a rook to lose. Chess-results also showing a loss

Fischer played the Exchange Ruy Lopez regularly, but also liked his Bishops more generally.

Re: Confusing Openings

I had a 4ncl game several years back, which went 1.f4 e5 2.e4, when my opponent sank into thought as he didn't have 1.e4 e5 in his black repertoire.

You get similar patterns if you replace the distant pawn (the one not next to the king) with the opposing king, and again if you remove the distant pawn and add a knight one square behind it.
Or if you replace the doubled pawns with bishops

Re: Recommend chess puzzles.

This is a classic. It's an enormous door stop of a book with 5000+ problems. Mainly mate in 2's and 3's, many of which are deceptively hard. Very useful for drilling/hardwiring all of the possible mating patterns into your brain. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Chess-5334-Problems-Combinations-Games/dp/157...

Plus a provisional 208 rating from 2012 where he drew with Ameet Ghasi. Clearly a cock-up to allow him to enter. He single handedly ruined the online British, now he has robbed another group of players of their prize money.

Like a strong GM, perhaps, would be a better way of putting it.
No, he was literally playing the 1st move of the engine for a long sequence of moves.
