Re: One Hundred years celebration

Yes, and the move to FIDE gradings was one such thing that might not have helped...as just one instance.
..and the policy of fines should be used very sparingly, if at all.

Re: One Hundred years celebration

I think that, in order to appreciate this competition, one has to firstly appreciate the unique format of the events, catering for players of all standards, and providing a good days chessing and the chance to gain valuable match play experience via this big team format.. It also builds a bond acros...

Re: One Hundred years celebration

I guess some greater publicity amongst the Unions/Counties bodies would help... these events do give some very good chessing experiences for all grades of players, and can provide some great match play experience, with time controls that do provide a decent opportunity for proper end game play.

Re: One Hundred years celebration

I suppose you could say that the ECF have moved into he 21st Century with the new jazzy LMS software. Is it stuck with just 16 player teams or could it be modified to handle greater than that number of players... should there be a surge in demand.

Re: County Chess: ECF Policy of Fines

This is a tricky one.. If prior notice is given that a team will be players short, then I think there should, in general be no fines imposed. If we were playing professionally for money, then it might be different. It does help if you have a group of you organising things, who can share ideas, if pr...

Manchester - players wanted.

Manchesters OPEN and U160 teams both require players for the National Quarter Finals. Any eligible players are asked to contact myself or John Reyes asap.. Clashes with other events like the RHYL Congress, family gatherings, Holidays and so forth have eaten into the availability of our players so an...

Re: County Chess 2018-19

John has a point about zonal formats..it just needs a bit of county organising. THe MCCU is lucky to have a reasonable number of volunteers to help with this.. Yes, there are challenges.. you need captains and I`d also advocate vice captains who can give some time to team selection and match arrange...

I hope a role can be found for Tim at some point. He strikes me as a great enthusiast for uk chess. and might add balance and a northern voice in chess circles.

Re: DIV 3 North..more teams wanted..

Another Stockport League or Cheshire based team or another Merseyside team would not go amiss either. A speedy return from Notts would also be welcome I think. Maybe a season battling with the Div 4 lot might sober them up a bit. Meanwhile , can I also call on the North East to come forth with anoth...

Re: DIV 3 North..more teams wanted..

I thought that another team from the North East was considering joining the fray.. We certainly don't want to look to reducing the North league any further if we can avoid it.. as for the scope to expand, there are areas that are either under represented or not represented still in the north who it ...
