Re: Congresses Going Ahead - carona virus info
Can I say that the Northumberland congress merits your support and is keen to see a full house (reduced to 120 players this year due to the carona Virus factors -- see separate thread (below) for details. This includes a piece on the requirements for the Carona virus which might be helpful to others...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal
Fair post John....but a little `rubbish` Is to be expected at times, I guess. The moderators should take care of the worst offenders but it probably pays to create your own list of `offenders` and press the ignore button in some cases. There are some websites that seem to thrive on the `rich` use of...

Re: National Online Club Championships
I only got back to chess this month after a layoff of about 12 months or so, but I`m interested in playing some of the online matches if possible. The only main snag is that I am not a fully paid up member of the ECF for this season.. However, I wish the Manchester teams good luck this weekend. .Loo...

Re: Membership Renewal
As regards the payment of club subs, I favour the idea of players paying up in full this season, regardless of whether or not we have a full seasons otb chess..... not least because it gives clubs the chance to boost there funds, since many seem to run on a shoe string budget with little in the kitt...

Re: Counties Championship 2018-19
County chess and 4NCL are two different animals.. I think there is room for both, but maybe some changes are needed to accommodate both. For a start.. yes, more captains coming forward would help create more teams. But they need the support of leagues, clubs, players and county bodies to help establ...

Re: Semi finals 2019
As would be the trip from Bolton to Brighton... this is easier, I suppose, in the 4NCL because of overnight stays.

Re: Semi finals 2019
Yorks won against Middlesex by 10.5 - 5.5 in the OPEN section...at Spondon. There were some match defaults again.. notably in the U180 section.. I guess Suffolk couldn't handle being in the Semis in both the U180 & U160 sections. Also, it could be that travel issues played a part. Traveling from Ip...

Yes, and the move to FIDE gradings was one such thing that might not have helped...as just one instance.

Re: One Hundred years celebration
I think that, in order to appreciate this competition, one has to firstly appreciate the unique format of the events, catering for players of all standards, and providing a good days chessing and the chance to gain valuable match play experience via this big team format.. It also builds a bond acros...

Re: One Hundred years celebration
I guess some greater publicity amongst the Unions/Counties bodies would help... these events do give some very good chessing experiences for all grades of players, and can provide some great match play experience, with time controls that do provide a decent opportunity for proper end game play.

Re: One Hundred years celebration
I suppose you could say that the ECF have moved into he 21st Century with the new jazzy LMS software. Is it stuck with just 16 player teams or could it be modified to handle greater than that number of players... should there be a surge in demand.
