Re: Northamptonshire Chess Association AGMs

I think it happens that way with many AGM's - those who need to know will always find out, and the rest of the league live in ignorance of the issues being decided on their behalf. It has made me wonder whether doing some sort of online voting system might be an interesting experiment to get more p...

Northamptonshire Chess Association AGMs

Sorry to be ranting like this on the ECF forum but why have we got to the absurd situation where AGMs and EGM are being held in camera In Northamptonshire? I only happened to know because someone mentioned in passing that there is one next Monday, when I visited my local chess club on the way home f...

Re: Expert chess players 'use specific brain areas'

Sounds plausible to me. There are players who can consistently beat me in blitz but can't do the same in slow play. Blitz and certainly bullet relies on "certain tricks" that would be spotted in a "real" game. Having said that, the amount of times I have lost my Queen to Bg5 premove leaves me red-f...

Expert chess players 'use specific brain areas'

Article from the BBC (sorry if already posted) Scientists have discovered that expert board game players use a part of their brain that amateurs fail to utilise. http://metsxtra.mlblogs.com/dr-thumb-250x250.jpg Reading between the lines, unlock your brain and give Kasparov/Carslen etc. a run for th...

Re: Opponent Made An Illegal Move In A League Game

Isn't Black totally busted? One idea after 47 .. Qd1 is 48 a5 Qc2 49 a6 b2 50 q7 b1Q 51 Qxb1 Qxb1 52 a8Q+ which is QBPPP v QPP. You can also stop b2 by putting the Bishop on d4 and then playing to queen the a pawn. Was White in any way really short of time? Pushing the pieces off the board is an un...

Opponent Made An Illegal Move In A League Game

In the following position on move 47 as black Pribanich rated 169 made the move 47 ...Qc2 and pressed his clock. http://chessup.net/php/pictureParser.php?fen=6k1/6p1/5p2/8/PQ5P/1p2BqP1/5P1K/8&dcolor=D18C47&lcolor=FFCF9E&bcolor=E0E0E0 We had made the 35 moves for the first time control and now presum...

Re: Problem in ChessBase 11

I haven't got ChessBase 11 but I would be interested in seeing a screenshot of this new ribbon bar feature. Could someone please post theirs?

Edit: Is this it or is it a customisation of it that Peter is asking?

Re: Innovations in chess organisation

A thread about Chesspoint. :D I was talking to someone today who was interested in learning chess (a beginner beginner if there is such a word) and mentioned a couple of places he could look and get free coaching and Chesspoint was featured. It would be great if the likes of Chesspoint and other gra...
