Re: ECF U19 National Schools Chess Championship Finals

Matthew was very happy to finish his very last match as a Reading pupil with the team becoming champions for the 3rd time in 5 years 😀

Thanks to all the organisers for their excellent and hard work.

Re: Jersey Polar Capital 2018

Can anyone on the ground in Jersey advise what's going on - has Matthew's round 9 opponent showed up? (Live board suggests not...)
Update via email from Adam Raoof - Matthew's opponent is on the way (sounds like confusion over earlier start time for the final round). Something of a relief....

Does Matthew Wadsworth get an IM norm with a win?
Well spotted, yes, it looks like 6/9 will do it.

Re: European Youth Team Chess Championships 2016

Now out of the closing ceremony and starting to pack. 7.30am bus pick up tomorrow morning. First the facts: - Ukraine won the girls tournament (where we were not represented), Poland's A and B teams winning the silver and bronze medals - Israel won the open event, with Hungary second and Ukraine 3rd...

Re: European Youth Team Chess Championships 2016

Matthew lost. He tried to push for a win having not had one all week. Haven't spoken to him yet, he is too upset. Assume he missed the Bxe3+ tactic for black on move 45 :(

regrettably don't think he will - there is one player with an even better performance than 4.5/7. Congrats again to him regardless of that. Akito has had a week of which to be proud.

Re: European Youth Team Chess Championships 2016

It was very imminent as it turns out. Well done Akito - great performance from him all week. Not sure if he will get the gold medal for board 4 players but we will see at the closing ceremony later on.

Re: European Youth Team Chess Championships 2016

All being well Akito's draw, and thus the match, should be imminent.

However, I really don't understand why Matthew is once again putting himself under unnecessary time pressure, and thus me under unnecessary stress.....regardless of the outcome of the game we will be having a chat...

Re: European Youth Team Chess Championships 2016

Meantime congratulations to Israel, who with one game still going have won their match against Austria and thus sealed the title by a substantial margin.

And now Matthews opponent is feeling charitable too! A touch of final-round-itis appears to be setting in....

Re: European Youth Team Chess Championships 2016

Well this is fun. Adam and Pavel have just won from positions where in both cases they were losing. Adams opponent had a clear win, and then an opportunity to repeat to a draw, and then let Adam fork R & Q with a pawn. Oops. Pavels opponent simply left a R hanging for nothing. Double oops. To be fai...

Re: European Youth Team Chess Championships 2016

Unfortunately the live boards are accurate. Boards 2 and 4 have in the last few minutes / moves transitioned from level to worse; and Matthew on board 1 has yet again put himself under time pressure :(
