Re: British Championship Congress 2020

We had a Grand Prix for last year's British. Nobody who qualified via the Grand Prix took their place up. This is why it was scrapped and replaced by the current route F.

There will be discussions as to how well route F has worked, and whether we should stick with it, amend it, or replace it.

Re: Arbitration question

Touch-move claims are difficult to judge. In practice, arbiters usually don't rule in favour of the claim unless either both players agree on something, or an outside witness can say something.

Re: Women's World Championship Match 2020

Well, any match that had a First To N Wins condition will have gone to the last game, by definition. Also, any match that was actually drawn - in addition to the ones you mentioned, there was also Lasker-Schlechter, Botvinnik-Bronstein and the first Botvinnik-Smyslov match. There were also some othe...

Re: Gibraltar 2020

Impressive swindling technique to even get to that point, mind. David was losing until his opponent allowed the mass build-up on h2.

Re: Tata Steel 10th-28th Jan 2020

I see that Carlsen gets 7 games as White, 6 as Black. Giri the other way round. Is this a significant advantage - especially given the lack of Black wins to date? I assume it isn't or they would choose to avoid it. It's probably somewhere on the order of about 0.2 points or so. It's essentially irr...

And how did you generally fare Jack?
Usually scored 7 out of 7. Although one year I was giving Theo Slade an 18-2 handicap. That didn't go so well.

Re: If Magnus Carlsen....

We do that at Barnstaple, except our limit was 18 v 2. I've played a few tournaments there where I had less time for the whole seven-round tournament than any of my opponents did for the game against me.
