Re: Chess clubs by size

Well, that list is an excellent illustration of the population density of London, if nothing else.

Re: Switching over to the Sicilian Kan (?!) ?

I take your points but I feel as though some lines in the Sicilian have more theory than others and some are easier to go wrong in. Yes, but the question is whether these are the same lines. Re: Trivia Question

It's not grammatically correct as written, because it needs punctuation. There is at least one way to punctuate it to make a grammatically correct sentence:

""Jones, where Brown had had 'had', had had 'had had'; 'had had' had had the master’s approval."

Re: Media comments on chess

Bridge events are usually played over so many boards that an exact tie is unlikely, but I haven't looked through tie-break rules for it.

Re: Will the County Championship go ahead

Oh, we might have an interest, but it's unlikely to affect any team's decision to enter the national stages, or what teams they're likely to field in the Minor.

Re: Will the County Championship go ahead

I don't think it'll affect WECU much either way; our counties don't have large enough player bases for this to matter.

Re: Takeback requests in online games

I remember once using a dimly-remembered bridge rule to settle a question in pairs chess: what should the arbiter rule if a player shouts out a move while it's their partner's turn? My ruling was that the opposition could choose to insist on the move's being played or insist that it not be.

Sounds unusual, yes. The usual explanations for such a phenomenon would be that he had just recently joined the club, or some other strong player had recently left it.
