Re: New National Blitz event

If there is a British Blitz this Year ( and rumour has it that there still may be) pleeease can we not clash the qualifiers with Paignton this year. The Paignton dates are 31 Aug - 7 Sept, and have been known for a long time. Or failing that, please can we at least have 2 different qualifying dates...

Re: FIDE Cooperation Agreement with Coca-Cola

I was using a short-hand. The victims of the excesses of global capitalism are rarely white middle aged men in western liberal democracies. Or if my words are being subjected to this level of scrutiny, the consequences of the excesses of global capitalism disproportionately affect other demographic...

Re: British Championship Congress 2019

It is rather tragic if we can’t offer even some sort of appearance fee to EVERY Grandmaster who wants to support the British Championship by playing in it. What would be the cost of staying in Torquay for the duration? The absolute minimum would be £500, including travel, accommodation, food etc an...

I've already tried that - running it in compatiblity mode for Win XP/7/8 - all with the same result.
I think others have reported that they have had to keep an ageing computer in commission purely to run ECF grading software.
Well thank goodness, I should never have a problem...

Re: How do I?

In any case, as previously experienced and again anticipated, sending the TUNx files by email failed to allow the files to be used for read/write access by the sharee. Never mind. Further investigation needed. Do not ever send them by email. Ask the other user to download a copy directly from Chess...

Re: How do I?

You're quite right, that's precisely what it does. And that's the problem with the system for the scenario David outlined; it assigns seedings to a scenario where they are irrelevant, and then does pairings based on the assumption that those seedings are meaningful. What you want instead in that si...

Re: Needing to be ECF member to play in British Championships?

Why the need to be an ECF member to play in non FIDE rated British Championships events as opposed to paying the £7.50 game fee? The British Championships have been members only since well before the membership scheme, even in the days of 50p/game Game Fee. It's reasonable to me that the ECF's Annu...

Re: Think not what the ECF can do for you, but what you can do for the ECF

Even those of us who appoint proxies do not think it is fair. However you have to reform the whole voting system, not just tinker around the edges. Why should people pay a membership fee to the ECF and not have a direct say in what their money is spent on, or at least be able to directly vote for re...

I doubt we can revolutionize local chess in one fair swoop, but, how about start by widening the reach and voices at Council?
One member one vote. No block votes. No votes for leagues or counties or tournament organisers. No proxies. No taxation without representation.

Hampstead Congress ALL FIDE RATED from August 2019?

At the moment I am considering (for August 2019 onwards) FIDE rating the third section at Hampstead, this will probably be Under 1700 (and you would also have to be Under ECF 135). What do you think? As in the other sections, all players will ideally be ECF Gold members or pay a £10 supplement to th...

Re: Think not what the ECF can do for you, but what you can do for the ECF

Trying to pull the thread back on topic, here's a suggestion for what us plebs would like the ECF to spend some money on. How about an annual £5,000 congress contingency fund? The idea is to rescue events which get cancelled because the organisers believe the event is going to lose money and encour...
