Re: Director of Women's Chess

I am getting more women playing in my events than ever before. I am not sure this is because of anything specific I have done (though the new Golders Green venue gets a lot of nice feedback), I suspect it is because junior chess in general is thriving in the SE, and also because there are a lot of g...

Re: The DeMontford Bell Kings Place Chess Festival

This year's 6th event is shaping up to be really strong! You can see a preview of the tournaments at www.twitch.tv/adamraoof where I talk about the favourite Luke McShane and the lunchtime concert by Petr Limonov which will be a new departure for me. Petr has said that he will stay on stage to do a ...

Re: "Golders Green" 12 May 2018

as usual thanks to Brendan for superb photos! Thanks to Grandmaster Simon Willams the gingergm for his prizes of DVDs for the ECF Under 80 Section! You can see his website at www.gingergm.com and I thoroughly recommend his videos. You can find all the results from this and all other chessengland.com...

Re: Tournament Structures

My suggestion for an inclusive chess tournament would be to adopt the McMahon system by setting grade bands of 20 ECF rating points. This means that all players have competitive games right from the first round and those that keep winning get the chance to play up and meet stronger players. By the ...

Re: Jersey Polar Capital 2018

Merry drew with Arkell, Tiger won so joint lead on 6/8 on the final day - both are white, Merry against L'Ami (where a win should secure the norm). Should have a good chance but she's yet to lose at the tournament, so far from a foregone conclusion by any means. She also secured her second IM norm ...

Re: Jersey Polar Capital 2018

website seems to have been hacked by random online pharmacy ... It appears that if you search Google for Jersey chess and click on the link you get an unexpected website. However if you go to Jersey chess club.com directly there is no problem and there is no problem if you go to chess results.com

let it be the Ginger GM, please...
Isn't he likely to be playing?
I think he would commentate if the price were right. He has offered to do it in the past and been rebuffed.

Re: Candidates Tournament in Berlin March 2018

I sometimes have difficulty following the ganes live. If some kind person is willing, could they post updates (results and key positions and moves) during the final round? Either that or a link to a simple site that only gives results and moves without a display or analysis. Thanks. Time for a quic...

C'mon guys, you're better than this. There's this website run by the ECF which contains the following info: http://www.englishchess.org.uk/2018-fin ... l-meeting/
I still don't know what time this meeting is taking place, and what the venue is!

Re: Media comments on chess

I confess to being chess consultant to BBC's Eastenders. Last night, Patrick spectacularly checkmated Ted (Christopher Timothy - AKA James Herriot in All Creatures Great and Small) in the allotment shed. On Monday, Ted was practicing in his shed and played a RxN Sicilian Dragon sacrifice as black w...

Aha - we will revise the wording. It appears that we can offer the chance of a qualifying place, but not the guarantee of a qualifying place.
