We had a match in the Yorkshire league last season, where three of our players had large upset wins. Board 2, our player graded 140 beat a 182 Board 3, our player graded 95 (aged 85) won vs a player graded 178 Board 5, our player graded 82 beat a 160. A quite remarkable set of results for one match!...

But the basic proposition already is quite firmly comic :) Maybe you mean something different to what you actually wrote or something. It actually happened. They played 1 round, and the arbiter repaired it, exempting the players whose opponents didn't change in the two pairing list from playing. Why?

I've heard that 1.g4 e5 2.f3 isn't the best but the refutation is quite subtle and only the top GMs can really tease out the nuances and get a slight advantage for Black.

The puzzle apparently dates from before the time any official rules existed and thus there was an ambiguity about whether the piece you wanted to promote to had to be the same colour or not.
