Re: Bg5

Thanks for the replies, I think I am starting to appreciate the better control of the centre Jack pointed out.

Bg5

Hi, I am abit puzzled by Rybka's analysis to one of my games, specifically it recomendation to play 7 Bg5 then exchange the Bishop for the Ne7 in the following game fragment; 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Bc5 4. c3 Nge7 5. O-O f5 6. d4 Bb6 7. Re1 ( 7. Bg5 h6 8. Bxe7 Nxe7 9.Nxe5 ) Since this game I have...

Re: County Championships

In Cambridgeshire we didn't manage to field a team in the U100 due to a lack of players and the U125 was populated mainly with sub 100 players. The proposal to keep the boundaries as they are would mean we would not be able to field either a 125 or 100 team as far as I can see. Most of the juniors w...

Re: Tournament Software

Have a look at this link:

http://www.enpassant.dk/chess/softeng.htm#TL

I have tried Vega with success though it is limited to 30 players unless you pay a licence fee.

Cheers

Re: Step by Step Method

I wonder whether the underlying reason why children at 100 are willing to improve is because they have positive feedback from their learning (i.e. winning games or not losing as many games) and the indicator of their success is the increase in their grade. This is a tangible outcome from the effort ...

Re: Step by Step Method

I believe that chess as a game should be enjoyed. Therefore the main thing that most English children want to do is play chess, rather than be taught how to improve. They can quickly switch off if you try to teach them when they want to play chess. However, they will reach a stage when the enjoymen...

Re: Coaching

Matthew, Surely the responsibility for CRB checks lies with the School. My sons primary school are dealing with this side of things without the need for the ECF to get involved.

Andrew;
Thanks for the response, how many AC levels will there be?

Re: Coaching

Back to the original subject,

I was intending to start a chess club at the primary school my son attends. The ECF listed a package of materials and here a CoM is mentioned, will I be able to obtain some formal qualification awarded by the ECF?

Re: Coaching

I've spent a while reading the posts here and have finally reached the point where I think I must comment. If someone is appointed a Director of a specific area then he must be allowed to direct and not have to organise commitees to appoint two people for a contract. Since I doubt we are talking abo...
