Re: Chess clubs by size

Under the new grading system there's a "nominal club". I don't know how that's determined. For me, it's not the club I currently play for; it's a former club. By contrast, quite useful for me, as it is the club I have been a member of since 1987, and am Treasurer of, but haven't played for in years...

Re: Media comments on chess

Listening to Radio 5live this morning, the F1 commentator said today's race will be close and a chess game in the pit stops

Is it my imagination, or are there more of these analogies being uttered now, maybe because of the Queens Gambit popularity?

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

This guidance is applicable after 21st June, the date on which all restrictions are scheduled to be officially lifted. It seems to me that the document is attempting to apply restrictions where none will officially exist. We welcome comments/input on the list which should be sent to office@englishc...

Re: Ian Nepomniachtchi

----So back on track - what flag will Nepomniachtchi be allowed to play under? (if any) I'm puzzled. Didn't I read about this flag ruling a couple of months ago? Pete Doggers FIDE's Chief Marketing and Communications Officer David Llada provided the following statement: FIDE can confirm that, due t...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

It is likely that by the Autumn the majority of adults in this country will have had 2 Covid vaccinations which at the moment would appear to offer a high level of protection( obviously new variants may change this) Personally I would be happy to play in congresses without too many restrictions if ...

Re: Candidates Tournament 2020

How much help (compared to Karjakin) will Nepo get from "the Russians"? Pete Doggers reported Interestingly, Nepomniachtchi didn't mind revealing the players who had helped him prepare. Besides the general coach of the Russian Chess Federation GM Vladimir Potkin, he named GM Ildar Khairullin, GM Ni...

Re: Candidates Tournament 2020

Though it doesn't look like Giri will win unless Alekseenko self-destructs again. (Which is just as well, considering the amount of "its unfair!" whining - not from him, tbf - that will ensue if he does finish level) From yesterday: Giri didn't agree with the pundits who had called the rules unfair...

Yes, my initial thought was that Option 3 might be best for that reason; will be interesting to see what is agreed
