Re: NCCU website down

He played the Leyland Open in August and then the British Blitz qualifier at Bolton, so it seems he's likely to be north west based now

Re: 2019 Aeroflot Open

Chessbase are saying rounds 1 & 2 will be played tomorrow. Round 1 had already started before being abandoned. I cannot immediately think of any precedents. Would they repeat the same pairings? They could after all reverse the colours. Rest days in Swiss tournaments are now very unusual. Even the B...

Re: Chess Put Forward To Join Paris 2024 Olympic Games

"CCTV5+ covers 600 million people in China and according to our correspondent for this event Liang Ziming, this game was watched by 60 million people. That could well be a record for our sport!" Ok, my brother-in-law was on Chinese TV when he lived there, so I know it is a bit strange Chinese popul...

Re: World Teams 2019

Laurent Fressinet reports that France got an invitation to play in this and turned it down. Which is strange, as they are down as 3rd reserve, suggesting more than 2 teams have turned down the chance to play I see it clashes with the St Louis Spring chess classic (Le Quang Liem, Ivanchuk) and the P...

Re: Chess Put Forward To Join Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The World University Championship had a men's competition and a women's competition. I suppose it could be an Olympiad-style event, but for Rapidplay and Blitz. If that is to be the case, then the issue with that is that we'd have to compete as Great Britain and not England/Scotland/Wales/Jersey/Gu...

Re: Should the ECF have accepted sponsorship from the Scheinbergs for the World Team Championships 2019?

ECF ought to agree sponsorship with anyone I trust you are nowhere near membership of the Governance Committee. Your position is not merely "morally dubious", as if it were solely a matter of differing ethical judgements. It would in certain circumstances invite ECF to enter unlawful transactions. ...

Re: Should the ECF have accepted sponsorship from the Scheinbergs for the World Team Championships 2019?

I knew it! When the case is made strongly enough that ordinary ECF members, many of them low earners, should not indefinitely be wholly or largely subsiding Michael Adams and Luke McShane, then a sponsor would be found - and of course it wouldn't be a reputable one, because respectable commercial o...

Re: Division Two 2018-19

The second phase Pools clarified a little today. Pool 2A is fully resolved: Spirit of Atticus will head the group, barring a calamitous and improbable reversal in rd 7. They'll be accompanied into the promotion pool by Anglian Avengers, KJCA Kings and Barnet Knights Pool 2B is less resolved: Barbic...

WR2 & Shrops 1 win again to stay on 100% and favourites to go up

3Cs 2 & MM 2 level at 2-2 in what always looked likely to be a close match

EDIT and a drawn match it is

Re: Vladimir Kramnik Announces Retirement

chess24 interview I suspect that the world is going to change a great deal in 10-20 years, and we need to prepare a new generation of children, to instill in them flexibility of thought and the ability to apply your knowledge in various spheres of activity. After all, we’ve got no idea what profess...

Yes, I am - as well as the rugby, cricket and football. Keaton Jennings ( ) 'out' twice in one over, and now out properly (for 8 )
Keaton trying to ensure his availability for Lancs this summer
