Re: U.S. Elections 2020
I was aware of Spassky-Fisher, but as I only took up chess about 2006, I didn't take a great interest in it. I do remember the first moon landing, I was one of five in a three man tent in the Lairig Ghru in the Cairngorms, listening to a transistor radio. I remember the wait before it was announced ...

Re: Cheating in chess
Do we really need to get a medical certificate to go to the loo? Due to 'underlying conditions' I personally have been on diuretics for nearly two decades. Prior to today only I knew that my personal circumstances had been used at a FIDE anti-cheating seminar, as an example of how frequent toilet vi...

As of about 9.30pm tonight it no longer does. I did look earlier in the day, when it certainly did say your account was closed.

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal
When I played I Rook a couple of years ago, I mentioned that I had previously encountered a bishop, a knight, and a MacQueen. His response was that he would be happy to play either knight or bishop, as he would be starting 'up the exchange'.

I have to disagree with Mr Thurlow, the results are not all in. My games from Blackpool, not that good but 50%, are not there. Blackpool does not appear to have submitted any results.

Re: 2020 European Online Chess Championships
To have 6 cheats in the top 10, but only 8 out of the remaining 1525, would seem to indicate that cheating is fairly low on average. It would also seem that those who do cheat, do it extensively, and are not very subtle about it.

In the board game 'Pandemic' Madagascar was always the first place to close its borders
Regarding freezers, I have been unable to purchase a chest freezer of any size. The earliest delivery offered was in 28 days.

Re: British Championship Congress 2020
I first entered the British in Llandudno (2017) and played in Hull the following year(2018). Despite not playing very well, I enjoyed both events. I booked accommodation in Torquay (2019) fairly early, and looked forward to the event. I eventually decided not to enter because of the cost of actually...

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system
In December (25th) I noted that three of seven congresses I had taken part in had not appeared in the list of events submitted to the ECF Grading team. Only one of these has appeared in the following three and a half weeks. One of those missing was fairly early in the season, end of September, while...

Re: Prize Money is Out of Control
Obsessive? I think you really meant obscene Andrew. To be honest I have to agree with Geoff, the money available to the 'top echelon' of chess players is out of proportion to the benefit they provide to the chess playing public. The London Classic this year provided little in the way of entertainmen...
