Sad to see this. I first met Martin in the early 2000s when I played for South Norwood. I can’t add much to the well-written tributes above; Martin was indeed a real gentleman and a chess stalwart who gave far more to the game than he took out. RIP.

Matt Turner was on it, and did extremely well.

Sorry to hear this. He was one of the tournament stalwarts that I used to often get paired against as a junior in the seemingly endless series of Nuneaton and Leamington Rapidplays in the early or mid 90’s. Tough player and a good sport whatever the result - although his experience usually told.

Pretty sure Geoff was just trying to be funny. It's got nothing to do with Ramsay or cooking. I've just watched the first episode. Was all right but I wouldn't watch it again. There's a bit about it on Chessbase news.

I wouldn't be winning every game against players of my own standard, let alone anyone in the world (Carlsen!). It's not a good move but it's not going to make that much difference.
