Re: Martin Cath

Sad to see this. I first met Martin in the early 2000s when I played for South Norwood. I can’t add much to the well-written tributes above; Martin was indeed a real gentleman and a chess stalwart who gave far more to the game than he took out. RIP.

Re: Ken Allen

I’m really sad to see this news. Ken was one of the nicest guys you could hope to meet. He would always give me lifts to and from matches in the late 80’s early 90’s when I was a junior playing for Solihull, and he briefly worked at Alderbrook senior school which I attended, where he helped to get a...

Re: Countdown?

Matt Turner was on it, and did extremely well.

There have been quite a lot of chessplayers (of varying degrees of note) make an appearance throughout the years.

Re: Andy Price

Sorry to hear this. He was one of the tournament stalwarts that I used to often get paired against as a junior in the seemingly endless series of Nuneaton and Leamington Rapidplays in the early or mid 90’s. Tough player and a good sport whatever the result - although his experience usually told.

Re: Sam Shankland......

Pretty sure Geoff was just trying to be funny. It's got nothing to do with Ramsay or cooking. I've just watched the first episode. Was all right but I wouldn't watch it again. There's a bit about it on Chessbase news.

Re: WC Match 2016 - New York 10-30 November

Does anyone know what time the tiebreaks start on Wednesday? I assume it's the same time but not sure.

Apologies if this has already been asked...

Re: Whilst I wait for Caruana to reply

I wouldn't be winning every game against players of my own standard, let alone anyone in the world (Carlsen!). It's not a good move but it's not going to make that much difference.
