Re: U100 Rapidplay sections please

ps Read my blog (wearing my hat as Manager for Congress Chess,) and you'll see that I am attempting to develop the existing ECF English Tournament Calendar. I have noted your comments and I shall take this into account along with any other responses I receive to the basic idea of developing the Cale...

Re: U100 Rapidplay sections please

Antoine, In the mid 1990's I took a not dissimilar view to yours about the need to try and give the lower graded players in the Minor Sections of congresses a more sporting chance, by developing opportunities and sections for those graded well below 100. My efforts were based on the evidence availab...

Re: Getting Fritz

Anthony, you could do worse than consider buying HIARCS, which is now available for both the Windows and MacIntosh platforms. I personally find it better than Fritz. I am way too tired and it is far too late for me to go into details. However, I shall in a future blog write a piece which compares th...

Re: E-mail from Bruce Holland

I have only recently arrived back home, having been tipped off whilst I was on the move this afternoon and early evening, that it appears my address book on my iMac20 PC has been compromised, through the agency of Google and Google Drive. I'll keep my counsel on what I am thinking about Google right...

Re: Membership Services

I would like the ECF to provide a standardised league management website template. This would compute league and knock out results and compile a league table. It would be able to provide team and player results for viewing and would automatically submit to the ECF for grading. ....... John Upham ha...

Re: Membership Services

Discounts from anyone who'll give them I have a specific suggestion to Paul's general idea. It is this. Chess players these days are avid consumers of computer technology and computers. We have a potential customer base of about 10,000 who will probably buy at least one new computer every 3 to 5 ye...

Re: Membership Services

As ECF member and chess player in England I would like more of the games I play to count for the FIDE rating. It would be great if the ECF could work with FIDE to have the league games in England to fall withing the FIDE rating grid. PS: no need to point out that it cannot be done with today's rule...

Re: Shropshire Chess Congress 5-6 January 2013

I would like to echo Alex's comments about the quality of this venue. Playing conditions have come a long way forward over the past 40 years. Buildings such as the Wrekin Housing Trust's training centre are a good source for types of venues as an alternative to hotels (such as those used by the 4NCL...

Re: Advice from Michael Adams for players in the British 201

I think that it was an interesting conversation and I'm glad that Michael stopped for a chat with the boys. I am a little sad though that he is jetting off to do chess camps abroad rather than here. I am guessing that money is the issue, shame that the best player in the country isn't able to help ...

Re: ECF Restructuring Consultation - Who does what?

I have two observations about the office. Angus' point is well made. For example the web site provides a lot of hidden benefits to congresses, especially as the Calendar acts as a kind of clearing house for congresses publishing their details and entry forms. We saw the benefit of this with the Warw...

Re: Player of the Year 2012

I was wondering who to nominate when the email arrived yesterday morning. My thoughts were, perhaps its time for a woman to win this again, and so I put down Jovanka Houska simply because I know who she is, and year in year out she plugs away in quite a few strong tournaments. I quite like the idea ...

Re: Warwickshire Open Chess Champs 2012 : Prizes

Lawrence, sorry your are right, it should be Richard Weaving. I don't often post on the Board, and the fact that you cannot post HTML files (for security reasons) and more surprisingly plain text files, had me focusing on the mechanics of the process of posting, as well as getting quite cross in the...

Warwickshire Open Chess Champs 2012 : Prizes

The Championships in the Open Section was the most keenly contested for possibly 50 or 60 years. The Tucker Trophy was tied for by three players, Ameet Ghasi, Tom Sygnowski, and Richard Weaver, each with 4 pts out of 5. The prizes are posted here in the attachment: [color=#4040FF]WOCC.Prize.Winners....
