Re: Living in the Past: The Chiltern League
Just to fill in a gap. I played in the league in the early to mid 90s and possibly late 80s and back then it was for second teams plus Bucks and Berks had under 18 sides in it, so definitely not an open at that time. As others have pointed out the first teams still played in the SCCU (or WECU), so p...

Re: National Club
There is some onsite accommodation that can be organised via Stephen Greep, as they do have guest accommodation for visitors to events, but possibly not as much as when it is out of season.
There is cheaper accommodation at least for Single occupancy at Endsleigh Park nearby.

Re: National Club
National Club is also on the trophies, so it means they can be reused, assuming they get them all back.

Re: National Club
Time limit has been changed to 90/30 and it appears it has expanded from clubs in leagues associated with the ECF to also include clubs that participate in a league in Wales, Scotland and Ireland. As Redditch are current (2018) holders of the Intermediate plate, we will be entering a team, but I did...

Re: A National Rapidplay Club (OTB) Competition?
The ECF also attempted it viewtopic.php?f=25&t=713 but didn't get enough entries to continue with it.

Re: Anyone for Hnefatafl ?
I was given a set for a relatively recent Christmas or Birthday, and it was accompanied by a book An Introduction to Hnefatafl which has ended up having more time being read, than the game being played. The main problem I have with these games, is that they seem to be popular present ideas for me, b...

Re: Chess Player needed to open Cafe
Closest Chess Club is almost certainly the new club at Bishops Cleeve, and then the club in Cheltenham. I started going to Cheltenham Chess Club when I worked in Tewkesbury, but only worked there for a year, so have only been back recently for a few classic car shows that have had to stop because th...

Re: Postage stamps and chess
I had a few British stamp sites bookmarked after I was looking at price of stamps for some relatives last month to see if they should hold on to them or not. Although they didn't have the sovereign's head, Gibraltar commissioned stamps only this year to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the festiv...

Re: 4ncl 2022-23
As an MK registered player all I have been told is Wessex have been relegated from Division 3 and that we have new opponents for Sunday. Whether that means they will appear in Division 4 or have been withdrawn completely, I do not know. I assume the 4NCL Admin are trying to arrange a replacement tea...

Re: 4ncl 2022-23
It also brings into question what is going to happen with Wessex B in Div 3 East. Have they pulled out as well, which means Sussex Martlets 2 and MK Phoenix 1 need to be told so they can cancel their room bookings if necessary, or if they are allowed to play, what happens in regards to who can they ...

Re: Which Clubs are Reopening ?
Like Simon, I have news of a new club but didn't know where to put it. A new club started up this week in Worcestershire, in Mary's Room at the Village Hall in Pebworth, located between Evesham and Stratford Upon Avon. The Club was setup as a Social Chess Club by Deborah Robinson who has no experien...

Re: New ECF ratings codes
As someone who plays in the North Gloucestershire League, I got to my 30 games by playing for Redditch in the Birmingham League (11 games) and Worcester League (7 games) and for Cheltenham in the North Glos League (12 games), with county and 4NCL taking me over the 30, so it can be done with registe...

Re: Media comments on chess
As I said the archive materials that I have are minimal , and I don't know what happened to Brian Lacey's papers. Sadly in order to maintain a good archive, you need somebody with a keen sense of the historical importance of the materials and the space to retain them whilst putting them into an acc...

Re: Which Clubs are Reopening ?
Cheltenham reopened at the beginning of August, and are open every Tuesday and Thursday again, but the venue rules say masks must be worn. Redditch were worried about their venue not reopening, after being sold during the pandemic, but we are being allowed back after some refurbishment, and the ches...
