I think he was about 190 from memory, so perhaps not what we normally think of as a professional. Professional in the sense that he launched a magazine that folded after a couple of issues and wrote a book or books for Batsford (on Tal). https://chessbookchats.blogspot.co.uk/2016/03/international-c...

A few frames from the recent Beano in question. I was a bit stunned to see it priced at £2.50.
I think I agree with Minnie's Dad's comment (What? How?!). Minnie has a pawn on f8 and the White King is already in check from two Black pieces.

The main irritant was players stealing seconds by not moving promptly. It can also cause problems when players move too quickly, i.e. before the buzzer. Back in the 1970s whilst living in Bradford, I was playing in a lightning tournament, and one opponent was one of the many Eastern Europeans that ...

I suppose that I should have checked the manual but these are locked away with the clocks in the club except when being used.

Early days, but it appears Sebastien Maze doesn't know how to mate with B+N vs K. For some reason he has declined to capture his opponent's last pawn, instead blockading it as one would in the ending 2N vs P.
Well, he's found a novel way of winning it!

Radjabov must be delighted with his round 9 pairing, as Rapport is often likely to make a game of it rather than shut up shop. (Though not today!)

The Palma de Mallorca FIDE Grand Prix has just started... Am I missing something or is ChessBomb (in addition to Chess24) not covering the event?
Presumably scared off by Agon? You can see the boards at https://worldchess.com/gp2017/.

And at first glance one might think that the guy seated at the fireplace is Kasparov. (And the one standing is Richie Benaud).
