From the current Radio Times, a review by Frances Taylor starts "Some chess purists have criticised this programme for not airing all the games in their entirety, or for being too popularist in its approach. And to them I say: yah boo sucks."
Not sure I follow? Is Yah Boo a grandmaster?

Not sure that she is selling it very well. However if they make a second series I may have to eat my words.

Is it entirely true though?

It could be taken in different ways. Sue P says she suffers from ADHD in the article. However as a well known media personality her views are respected by many people, young and old. Perhaps my question should be:- "Is this how we want chess to be portrayed?"

Of course the ECF should support all chess, irrespective of age. There seems to be a general agreement that the rating of juniors does not reflect their true strength. Until that issue is resolved problems will continue, since ratings determine pairings, prizes, board order, etc, etc.

Battersea CC are considering entering. Can you confirm that equipment is available at Pimlico. Do you have enough digital clocks ? Would we have to provide anything eg score sheets ? Most important of all - Is there an excellent pub nearby providing quality beer at a reasonable price ?

Not collected by the Unions but by 2 or 3 new companies say ECF(N) and ECF(S) which could still be based at Battle but which would require separate officers and accounts. ECF could still be retained to deal with central policy issues.

Would I be right in saying that Welsh, Scottish and Irish federations do not pay VAT because their turnover is below the threshold ? If so could the ECF form regional companies to collect subscriptions and thereby avoid VAT as each company would be below the VAT threshold ?
