Re: NCCU and the MCF

Quite right Andrew Zigmond, the YCA is in support of the MCF joining the NCCU and I look forward to receiving a report from the YCA officials who attended the NCCU meeting to understand what they said and did in support the MCF's application at the last NCCU meeting. Mick - I truely hope that this w...

Re: Quarter-Finals

Michael - To be honest I didn't struggle for players at all and pretty much everyone I asked jumped at the chance. I could easily have filled 16 boards in each team if needed (we played each match over 12 boards). I know a lot of players in Yorks having run teams and competitions for about 10yrs so...

Re: Quarter-Finals

Is that not entirely the point, we shouldn't have to force "reluctant" captains to take things on because no one else will. Yorkshire chess (and from my experience chess in general) lacks compitent and committed individuals willing to put in the work to to run teams, leagues, competitions etc. Relyi...

Re: Quarter-Finals

Mike - no doubt you will remember that I launched the two Bradford DCA teams in the 4NCL north in its maiden season. I loved the competition and was extremely happy in our first season when Bradford A won Div 3. When my second child came along I had to take a step back and left the teams in a very h...

Re: Quarter-Finals

Sean - I volunteered to run the Yorks u180, u120 and u100 teams in the NCCU stages this year as no one else would do it. I did know of my other commitments hence why I made it clear that it was only for the NCCU stages. Yorks then progressed the u180s to the nationals (without consulting me) and rup...

Re: Anand v Carlsen

I can't wait for the match to start. Come on Magnus!!! I have always had a lot of respect for Anand and was happy when he beat both Topalov and Gelfand. That said it is time for a change and Carlsen has been Word No.1 for long enough now to prove that he is the best tournament player in the world. B...

Re: European Championship - Team ENGLAND

Mark - why you continue to pop up on this forum with your strange take on the world is beyond me. You do not play chess, you seem to know very little about chess and you do not even appear to like chess! Why are you bothering to comment on chess?

Re: NCCU and the MCF

Paul - many thanks for your kind word in relation to the Pennine Cup this year. It was an enjoyable event and I would love to run it again and build upon what we started this year. In yourself and the other northern junior organisers I found a great group of people to work with who all care greatly ...

Re: NCCU and the MCF

I can not help but agree with Mick.

As interesting as this history lesson is, this thread is about NCCU chess now, and particularly the NCCU's position on the MCF.

It is because certain elements of northern chess are so stuck in the past that we are facing these problems today.

Re: NCCU and the MCF

Andrew - Unfortunately there is little point in me contacting the gentleman as I have no official capacity within the NCCU or the YCA. I like your suggestion though of Yorkshire championing the MCF's application. Indeed I thought that this is what we had mandated Ihor to do at the last YCA meeting. ...

Re: NCCU and the MCF

Andrew - noted but the minutes do not reflect Ihor's report and frankly it looks like we have taken one step forward and two steps back. I am so frustrated when reading this. I have therefore emailed the NCCU in a personal capacity to let them know what I think of these minutes and to confirm that I...

Re: NCCU and the MCF

I can not begin to explain how angry I am about this decision. On the one side the NCCU recognise that their actual contribution towards northern chess is pretty much negligible (given that only Yorkshire and Lancashire really compete at county level, their junior activities are at the bare minimum ...

Re: County Championship Rules

Cheers Jack. Who is the Controller, or is that still to be decided? Shame about Juniors who are not strong enough for the u120s that this rule means they can not take part. I know that Yorkshire are struggling for an u100 team this season and I was thinking of offering to help out with a largely ung...

Re: 4NCL North 2013-14

Great to see the 4NCL Div 3 North growing in numbers. There were certainly quetsions as to whether it would survive after Year 1 when I think we had 8 teams and 2 of them were from Bradford. Good memories though of some fun wekeends away and some good chess. Personal highlights: 1. Camping for two n...

Re: BKCA Junior RapidPlays - Bradford

Now fully up and running and slowly growing in recognition with some players starting to attend from far flung corners of the North such as Preston, Manchester and Wakefield :-)

Looking forward to another good event in October. Please get in touch if you would like to play.
