Re: Should we scrap adjournments?

Yesterday the Bournemouth & District Chess League AGM voted to switch the default time control to QPF, leaving the previous default option of 36/90 + adjournment available only if desired by both players. So we can expect at least a significant drop in the number of adjourned games next season.

Re: 2013 Final Stage

You are not the only one who has had this problem. One of the players who is playing in Big Slick was on the list (membership renewal due on 2 July) until he renewed and then he disappeared from the list. The system appears to have a problem with anyone renewing until 2014  I'm now back on th...

Re: 2013 Final Stage

Perhaps adding to the confusion, the online membership list does not currently show at least some memberships which have expired during the year and have been renewed. I recently renewed my Gold membership which was due to expire in July with the unexpected result that my name has disappeared from t...

Re: 2nd Bournemouth Grand Chess Congress: 26-28 April 2013

The thing was we didn't have the situation of say 2 players on 4/4 agreeing to halve out and share the money. We had 3 players on 3.5 who agreed to halve out to let someone else have the money! This is what caught us unawares. I should make it clear that I have no issue with GM Nick Pert who can har...

Re: 2nd Bournemouth Grand Chess Congress: 26-28 April 2013

As part of the organising team I feel deflated to say the least! I still can't quite believe that somehow we ended up with 3 players on the top two boards who had no interest in fighting for a first prize of £1000. What's to be done? Should we be aiming to offer a first prize of 2K? 3?

Re: 2nd Bournemouth Grand Chess Congress: 26-28 April 2013

Apologies for mentioning the actual playing of chess, but our favourite forumite Roger de Coverly has sensationally just beaten IM Ameet Ghasi with Black at the Bournemouth Grand Congress and with 3.5/4 going into the final round is in the hunt for the £1000 first prize!

Re: 2nd Bournemouth Grand Chess Congress: 26-28 April 2013

The congress has again already attracted a healthy number of participants, but note that March 31st is the final day before late fees will be applied to any further entrants. With a limited number of hotel rooms remaining, if you are thinking of entering then there is no better time to do so than ri...

Re: Bournemouth Grand Chess Congress: 20-22 April 2012

We are receiving entries at an encouraging rate and would urge anyone considering playing to submit their entries sooner rather than later! I have also received the following kind feedback for our website from our latest entrant to register online, Guy Whitehouse, a registered blind player (quote re...

Bournemouth Grand Chess Congress: 20-22 April 2012

An ambitious new event is being held in Bournemouth - believed to be the first weekend chess congress in many years offering a guaranteed 1st prize in the Open section of £1000! There are also good guaranteed first prizes in the Challengers (U155) of £300 and in the Minor (U125) of £200. We have ...
